The first two posters for this have been released.

THe trailer should be hitting soon, supposedly before the new HP! Until last week I hadn't even realised they had pretty much finished filming this, didn't even know it had gone into production. I really enjoyed the first one, I thought the chemistry between Downey Jr and Law was great, I actually thought Robert Downey Jr's performance in the first was just as good as his turn in Iron Man. Jared Harris seems like a strange choice for Moriarty to me (was hoping for someone like Daniel Day Lewis), Stephen Fry is also going to be in it as Holmes' brother. Here's hoping it turns out good.

I very much enjoyed the first film. It had a cracking soundtrack and I look forward to the new film. Stephen Fry should be fun as Sherlock's brother. I agree that Jared Harris is a bit out of leftfield for Moriarty.

Speaking of Sherlock, any word of the BBC series returning? Hugely enjoyed that too.

Yeah ,Enjoyed the first one so I'm looking forward to this big time.Although I'm a big fan of Robert Downey jr ,I did'nt expect to do as well as he did in part one.He made the part his own.

It's being filmed right now in Cardiff.. I'd say we'll see it late in the year.

When I first heard that Guy Ritchie was going to do a big-budget Sherlock Holmes movie, I cringed and feared the worst. In fact there's possibly some posts here on Boards where I cried out in horror at the prospect. The movie I had pictured in my head was something akin to Snatch by way of Shanghai Knights *shudder* I didn't seriously think any good was going to come of it.

Lo and behold though, I was like a lot of people & pleasantly surprised by the results. It was fun, energetic, had some funny, witty dialogue, and Downey Jr / Law made a great Holmes and Watson. In fact, as adaptations go, it was actually quite accurate & faithful to the original texts. I'm looking forward to the sequel! Though sometimes with unexpected hits like this, it's a case of Lightning-in-a-Bottle & the sequel may not have as much of the charm & surprise the first film had

    Dito.
I was gratefully surprised to see the result was brilliant instead.
Looking forward to seeing this second one - not just as an Arthur Conan Doyle fan/reader but just in cinematic terms alone.

I think Jared Harris is an excellent choice for Moriarty. He has a fantastic range and does charming and scary equally well.

    Trailer. Warning, quite spoilerific.

McAdams is back also as Adler but Rapace's character is the female lead this time around

Yea I knew Adams was back so I just expected her to be the lead, interesting!

Only watched the first one a few weeks ago and I hated it. Give me Basil Rathbone in the old B&W films any day.

I think McAdams only has a cameo in this film

She's only in it for the first 10 minutes.
...and I don't think we're going to be seeing much more of her.

Saw it t'other night and if was solid fun but overly busy. It was rushed into production, and it definitely seems that way with a huge surplus of characters and extravagances. Some of the setpieces are still fun, and the performances are still charmingly silly. But apathy towards the main plot quickly sets in, and you just have to wearily go along with it. The
    face transplant
stuff was a bit much, though.

I'll admit to thinking they were going to
pull the old 'you didn't see her die so she's still alive' trick. Kind of impressed they didn't. Poor McAdams.

Saw it at the weekend and its pretty much a re-run of the first film in terms of direction. Im just not a guy ritchie fan. He uses way too much slow motion, bit silly really, less is more when it comes to slow mo. And the endless shots down the barrell of a gun then tracking the bullets trajectory......he went back to that well over and over ad nausem. Its a strangely flat film aswell, which I found to be the case with the first film too. On the plus side Jared Harris is perfect casting. He doesnt go over the top and be the typical hollywood villian. He exudes genuine menace, and he's pysically imposing enough to convince that he could hold his own in a scrap.
Overall 2/5. Couldve been a really good movie in the hands of a better director.

Really beginning to look and sound like his father. Can exude menace with a look, coupled with that intelligent stare and voice makes for a really believable antagonist.

I liked it, solid entertaining movie. I prefered the first one as a story but I enjoyed this film more if that makes any sense.

Got to be a guy Ritchie fan I think to enjoy it as much as it's trying to be. I think it takes a good film to forget how much of a knob Jude Law is. As always in recent years, RDJ is worth the entry price alone.

3.5/5 which is a good score for me.

I was totally indifferent to this. Neither liked it nor disliked it and probably won't remember anything about it a week from now. Which is pretty much how I felt about the first one as well.

Harris was good, but I didn't think he had much to work with. I thought he was more menacing in Fringe tbh.

I watched this last night and would agree that it wasn't anything special. It's not a bad film, it just doesn't really do anything for me. And why the hell was Stephen Fry in it? He was totally underused, and the bits he was in were mostly unnecessary comic relief. I always got the impression from the books that Mycroft was Holmes' smarter older brother who always has better things to be doing, but in this he's just an odd man.

It could have been, and should have been so much better.

I was so impressed with the first one as I walked in there with such a bad feeling and came out actually enjoying a performance by Jude Law. The second one I thought built so much on the first and I was giddy about meeting Moriarty etc..

    Plus that scene
when they arrive for the wedding was an absolute comic timing masterpiece!

I liked it. Found it a little strange that Moriarty's evil scheme was only revealed in the 3rd act but the movie was driven enough to work in spite of that anyway so twas grand!

I'm a big fan of Sherlock Holmes, i.e books and old tv series, so I was always wary of the film in Ritchie's hands. But the first one surprised me and I found it enjoyable enough. The second one is more of the same but definitely comes across as a rushed project. Downey Jr cruises through it but the story got messy and while I accept that it's 'leave your brain at the door' type stuff it really is just ridiculous in some places.

I'd still recommend it to anyone with a bit of time to spare.

im in the "meh " camp myself.

it wasnt bad but its not great either, most of the enjoyment coming from downy jr and law's interactions which couldve been in any number of other films.

im not a real fan of the genre TBH so i suppose the fact i wasnt bored to tears speaks more to it.

it looks great and its a well acted romp which its what it was supposed to be i guess.

harris was great in a wonderfully understated way. the casualness of the hook scene was marvelously psychopathic, and the scene in the coffe house was a lovely way to show just how much influence his character had.

TBH though if it wasnt for the actors i doubt anyone would be bigging this up as anything other than a daft action film.

nothing wrong with them, but as a film its not really anything great.

suppose id give it 5 out of 10.

to be honest some of the things i liked had NOTHING to do with the film ! im a fan of alan moores league of extraordinary gentlemen comics and this is pretty much that world and it was fun to see stephens frys take on mycroft from that perspective :)

I'm a big Sherlock Holmes fan and I also was wary of Guy Ritchie taking this on. But have to say I thoroughly enjoyed this. The waterfall scene was done superbly. Actually thought Jude Law stole the show.

Must have been watching a different film to everyone else.

Didn't overly enjoy it, the overuse of slow motion really irritated me, almost as if Richie thought he was the filmmaker to discover the effect...

    Chess anyone?

    No?

    Me neither.

Sort of in the meh camp also.

The enjoyed the plot and the back and forths between Law and RDJ were very good.
Also found that RDJ English accent has greatly improved...it was a major annoyance in the last one. As with the first one, I found the slow motion action very entertaining, especially the combat scenes.

One thing that grated on me was Frys performance, it was like he was added as an after thought and then decided that he wasn't eccentric enough, so they got him to walk around in the nip.

All in all, more of the same of the first, so if you liked the first, then happy days, but if you didn't like the first then this won't do anything for you.

Great movie, but Fry's character was a bit much.

They could have relied more on his own humor instead of letting him walk around naked for comic effect...
