    Hi folks,

Im just wondering about sick pay, in my current employment i was forced to take a few days off work due to a bad flu and chest infection, it was my boss who told me go home on a wed morning, told me not to worry about money, just bring in sick cert from my gp, i took that wed, thur, fri off, and the following mon, tues, wed. i had to go to the gp twice, and also 2 antibiotics, total was 215euroes, then when i got my weeks pays for the first week i was off on returning back to work its was only for 2 days, when i confronted my boss assuming it was a mistake he said " jesus no i couldnt do that, its not in our policy", i left the office in a rage, and this leaves me over 600 out of pocket over the 6 days nevermind the loss of going to the doctor...

Iv never had a problem been paid for the odd sick day in the year from any other company iv worked for, and i only heard over the weekend from a friend who recently had a child that she was told by 3 co-workers that your entitled to 3weeks paid sick leave per year!!???

can anyone shed any light on this for me?

    thanks

Did you get a Social Welfare sick cert?

Your company has no obligation to pay you.

If it's not in your employment contract then no. If you were out more than 3 days you are entitled to social welfare. Just get the welfare cert from your doctor and send it in.

Perhaps when our boss said "don't worry about money" he meant that your health is more important, not that he would pay you. He may have been quite concerned.
