was listening to radio while i was bringing in cows this morning , apparently bord gais are looking to increase electricity price by 10% and i cant remember how much they want to increase gas by ... do they not realise that people cannot afford to pay their bills as it is:eek: i know fuel prices etc have gone up but this price hike would get rid of the discount you get for joining them.... i am with bord gais , was with airtricity and found them to be ****e, their billing was brutal

I am with bord gais. set up direct debit. never look at my account, Always text my meter reading. Realised after 6months that i had no bill paid. They never even noticed themselves. was bulling. had to pay a fair few hundred quid at once. was not pleased.

That was two years ago. Never had a problem since but if they increase prices, i'll be changing.

Change to whom?? Just because BG are increasing prices, does not mean the competition will be cheaper afterwards. You have to check and be careful.
I'm with BG, because they were cheaper than ESB when I changed four years ago. BG had very good deal for first two years of contract then it reverted to just 5% cheaper then ESB.

Since then the general domestic market has been further deregulated, and so ESB, are now free to compete on price with the independent operators.

I must compare ESB again with BG.

From what I have read and Whealan referred to it, Eirtricity are a fckuing nightmare to deal with. So even if they are cheaper, I don't think I would bother my arse changing to them. Better things need doing.

From today's Indo. Might save a few of you from having to do too much research.
    http://www.independent.ie/opinion/columnists/charlie-weston/charlie-weston-price-slashing-to-grab-market-share-has-ended-2817902.html

Now, the price slashing and market-share grabbing by the utility suppliers has ended.
But that does not mean consumers will still not benefit from switching again.
The best deal for electricity is from ESB Electric Ireland's SuperSaver deal. You need to sign up for a direct debit and online billing, and for that you will get 14pc off the usual ESB price, according to David Kerr of comparison site Bonkers.ie.
For those with a mains gas supply, the best bet is Flogas's New Customer Option B.
Getting your electricity from ESB's SuperSaver deal and gas from Flogas's Option B is more than €200 cheaper than ESB's standard tariff, with gas from Bord Gais.
Consumers need to examine their utility deals now to avoid a cold or extra costly winter.
