    Hi,

I'm 25 f and I just feel disappointed with my life at the moment. I've been in the same job for a few years, good salary but I hate it. I did a 2 year Higher Cert course a few years back and I started a course last September, and passed my exams with flying colours. I'm not sure what I want to do with my life and if a career in the course i'm doing will be something I will end up doing, though I do like the course. I owe a lot of money as I moved out of home at a young age so things have been tight, though i'm due money so should be debt free (fingers crossed) in 6 months. I just feel I guess life is passing my by I thought by now i'd have my travelling/college finished with and be in a better place than I am now. I'm just afraid i'm still going to be going to be at a lose end not knowing what I want to do at 30. I really want to travel and see the world and I also want to have a good career. When I was younger I had such enthusiasm, and excitement about life, going to college, being independant, travel etc and now I just feel completely deflated. Maybe I have my head in the clouds a bit or something? Help !!!

I'm kind of similar to you. I moved when young and have been paying my own way for a long time. I'm 26 now. I needed a loan in my final year of college just so I could work less than full time. Because of the loan I needed to get working right after college. I got myself a decent job and paid back my loan but by that time all of my friends had left and went travelling and most were already back...

The recession had started too so I was told I'd be a fool to leave a job. I've worked hard and have become very succesful but I'm feeling like I'm in a rut. I've been living in the same town for 6 years. I was in a long term relationship too..so I actually got head hunted by a company in London and turned it down to stay with my g/f who was cheating on me the whole time! :(

But now I'm thinking of just going. I'm in the process of saving up, unfortunately I don't have any real support, so I can't do what others do..going somewhere without a job or just travelling around the world. I'm going to move to America and just try and start a new life.

Thanks for your reply, yeah I understand what you say about "no support". You have to think of when I get back where do I go etc? Well done you on making a success of yourself. Sorry to hear about your gf, but her loss is someone elses gain as they say. I'm actually thinking of going to America on a student visa when I finish my course. I just feel like a lot of opportunities/time has passed me by. Its like i'm waiting on my life to begin or something.

    Hi OP

It CAN be done, so don't get too disheartened!

I was in a pretty similar situation to you. I moved out of home at an early age and have supported myself through college - which meant getting into debt. As a result, I had to go straight into employment after I got my degree to try get it paid off. I like my job, but I started getting itchy feet lately, so I started looking at ways I could fund a bit of travel.... that was 2 months ago, and in 2 weeks I'm moving over to South Korea to teach for a year!:) So, it can be done, and there are always some options available to you, it's just a matter of figuring out what they are. I'm still in debt, but now I should have it all paid off in the next year, and on top of that I'm getting to travel and experience a new country and culture.

It's a bit daunting at first, but you once you decide what you want everything else will fall into place. The big thing is just making that final decision to get up and go.

Get a piece of paper and write down a list of all the things your good at, then write down the possible jobs you could use those skills for, and then write a list of which jobs you'd enjoy the most. Just keep narrowing it down and you're bound to come up with something!
