Well daughter just gone 17, just got her learner permit....rang my insurer..€1800 extra to add her ?????

    That's on a 1.6 Alfa....I'm told €1100 extra on a 1.4 Astra.....

All wayyyyyyyy too much...what's my options? Any Ins Companies that are good for young named drivers?

    I'm 45 with full NCB btw ......

I was quoted 600 last year, same situation. Didn't go ahead with it as youngster doing LC and didn't want to take on driving lessons at the same time.

    Great value

    Lessons from €33* per hour
6 months free learner driver insurance when you buy one of our great value lesson packs, if you have a family member with Aviva

I got the Aviva deal quoted above (I was a 17yo male when I started out learning). It's great value for young drivers! You get 10 lessons and then 6 months free accompanied driving cover (which is a bit more restrictive than named driver insurance, in such that you aren't listed as a named driver on the policy, but instead given 'cover' to drive if and only if you are accompanied [they specifically state you aren't insured unless accompanied]. And for some reason when I was learning, Aviva stated my accompanied driver had to be either of my two parents).

I think you have to be in a car that's 1.6L or less though.

Young drivers get loaded. Named driver, or own policy, it's big bucks to insure them.

Do be aware that if you are cancelling your own insurance in the middle of the term, you may be liable for cancellation charges.
