Immersion reset help

I recently got my boiler serviced as the pressure was low in the gas boiler.
Despite being registered, the man who did the work appeared to know very little about the system (its a new build of about two years). When he left, the immersion stopped working and when contacted, he said that it had nothing to do with him.

I contacted the original plumber who worked on the build and he said that the immersion would need to be reset and to ring him back to arrange a time to do the job but I've since lost his number.
In the meantime, it means having to turn on the gas boiler whenever we need hot water, which is a pain in the butt at the best of times.

He said that it was a relatively easy job to do and it was just a button that needed to be pushed but I don't have a clue what I'm looking for so I wondered if there was anyone on here who could tell me how to do it for myself and save me spending a fortune on another plumber.
Many thanks in advance for any help or advice you can give me.

Depending on type the re-set button it is benieth the cover, either a seperate stat with small re-set button or a small hole in the main thermostat with a re-set, you will need something small to pop it back on if it this type.
BE SURE TO HAVE THE POWER OFF, AND IF NOT 100% SURE PAY THE MAN

This is what the plumber means by "reset button on immersion".

Its very easy to reset it, you just go to immersion cylinder, (green/bue tank in hot press) and push down the red button on outside of the round box sticking out of top of cylinder. (Black round part of photo of previous post to mine).

Before any smart alecs mention the radiator in my photo, this is a new immersion heater which hasn't been fitted yet. I just took it out of box to take photo of.

If only all re-set buttons were as easy accecible/visable as that one, i doubt we'd have the OP asking the question.

Its a free forum to post comments. I'm not just posting for the OP, but also for many people who read this thread and don't reply.
There are lots of people who know nothing about applianes etc in their homes and they come on here for answers even if they never post.
So spare me the scarcastic comment and the condensending smiley.

Alternately, you could tell the OP to get a plumber as thats the best course of action. Unless people are competant about poking around electricial appliances in their homes they should get a tradesman instead.

My post wasn't meant to sound scarcastic, just pointing out that not all re-set buttons are quite that easy to come across, "there are lots of people who know nothing about appliances in their home" and If you care to look back at my earlier post you'll note i told the OP ""IF NOT 100% SURE PAY THE MAN "". :P (Condensending smiley)

Thank you for the replies guys.

Unfortunately, it looks like the reset button is beneath the cover as there are no visible buttons on the outside of the housing. It looks like the one Billy Bunter posted.
I'm reasonably confident that it's something I can do myself. I just have to figure out which switch in the fuse box turns the power off.

My next question is : can someone please recommend a competent, reliable, knowledgeable plumber that works in the Lucan/Maynooth/Celbridge area as I'm having untold problems with radiators not heating and I've seen enough cowboys to make my own personal horse opera.

If anyone has a recommendation, please message or PM me.
    Many thanks in advance.

Ok - so I've taken the cover off the top of the immersion (with the power off btw) but nowhere on it can I see a reset switch so I'm back to square one :(

The pic below is what I'm greeted with when I remove the cover and I can see the thermostat. Anyone got any idea where the reset switch might be?

MaryK666 start another post asking for pm`s from plumbers in your area, there are some good lads on this forum who might be near you. embracinglife, I have not read any posts by Billy Bunting that were not meant to be helpful and I agree with him on the immersion resets they should all be that safely and easily accessed. MaryK666 it may be that red circular button below the stat but make sure the power is off as there is a strong supply to the immersion

    The re-set is there.

    The re-set is there.

Am I missing something Billy Bunter?
I honestly can't see it. Any more info would be great, thanks.

The small red button i have marked and pointed out by DoneDL.

It's the red "dot" thingy, under the blue wire beside the thermostat.
Make 100% sure that the power is off, and push down the red "dot" and it will reset

Edit: Never mind, missed Billys post, where he has it arrowed for you.

Thanks to all of you for your help. You're awesome!

I was a little bit thick last night and missed it totally, despite reading the post from DoneDL.

Finish work late today but I'll get to it as soon as I get home and hopefully, that'll fix the immediate problem.

And again, thanks for all your help.

It worked! My immersion now appears to be working again.

Thank you so much for all your help.
    You are all awesome.

Now I just need to get a plumber to fix all the other problems.

Interesting thread, I have to repeatedly reset the emersion or I get cold water. Usually happens after a machine wash of clothes. Why is the element failing and how long will I have to keep resetting before the element gives up completely?

    Cheers.

My reset button keeps popping up.

What does it mean? Thermostat failing? replacement??

I can feel the expense as I type

If it keeps popping it's either overheating possible faulty thermostat or the overheat thermostat is gone and needs replacing whichever it is your going to have to call out someone

what would be a rough estimate on those?

To supply and fit a new immersion heater would be in the region of €110-€150 depending on where your based.
A repair would be around €60-€80

I got a brand new immersion fitted last year, didn't work on bath, just sink. Got the fellow back, fiddled with it, worked. Didn't use it all winter, now need it again, not working again, sometimes not at all and only when the aforementioned button is pressed.
I have been pushing it while power is on, will this mean it won't work or is it just to stop idiots like me electrocuting themselves?
    Any help?
This job already cost me €200 and I'm loathe to spend any more.

You can buy immersion switches for 10 Euro and you can buy some for 25 Euro. Most of the cheap ones can't handle the load and fail within a year or so. It sounds like you have a cheap one and it was possibly faulty from the start. I would suggest replacing the faulty immersion switch for a good brand. Something like MK.

    Nope, that wasn't it :(
Going to get the multimeter out and check the wiring, see if there's something funky going on, before I replace the immersion, again.

Do you have gas or oil central heating?
Does the problem occur after the heating system has been on?

    Oil fired.
And only use it in the summer months.
Pain in the nethers it is.
