Cleaning a residential oil tank

    Hi,

    Just looking for some advice my daughter put some peat into my MIL's:mad: oil tank, dont think it was too much maybe just a couple of handfulls anybody know what if anything needs to be done??

    is the tank steel or plastic and is there a fall back on it

    The tank is plastic, sorry dont know what a fall back is??

    if the tank is tilted away from outlet pipe, the peat (or any other foreign bodies)will settle away from the filter so you will probably be ok

    A fall back is when the tank is off level so any particles fall to the end away from the pipe out this would work in your favour in this situation. maybe something like a fishing net on a long pole and a torch could help you get the worst of it out

    Oil filters would catch the rest, clean it regually till out of oil then clean the tank before the fill, service boiler before re-using.

    if its plastic and your fairly sure only a cpl of handfuls went in you'll be ok,no panic required,as plastic tank outlet fittings are an inch or two above the bottom of the tank
