You should have rung Pierce & Fitzwilliam or whichever set of gibsh1tes chase you for cash, they would have cut the amount in half.

Might be worth a go on Monday, but you might have missed the boat if the tolls were Jan, and they could have issued a summons by now.

Give them a bell on Monday and see if you can get them down to €150 - €200.

Write to then offering 150 or so,state in the letter that if they want the full amount you will only be able to pay it at a fiver a week, sent the letter by registered post, and keep a copy for yourself.

Not really the same and doesn't really set precedent. They proved in court that she used the toll bridge for more than six months before bothering to contact them and only offered to pay a token amount(less then the cost of the tolls themselves). She claimed she couldn't afford the toll, not the fine.

I have on ten separate occasions failed to remember the toll, been notified way too late and hit with a extortionate fine, went into a shop, paid the toll and retained the receipt, sent a registered letter with a copy of the paid toll receipt and text outlining my refusal to pay a fine on a contract I didn't sign. I have yet to hear back.

Why in the name of god would you not pay them after using the toll or easier just get a tag...

You would buy a good car for 535 euro and take it up the M50 more than twice...

I know how easy to forget! I forgot it last week so payed 1 day late. Did it once 5 days late and it was okay.

Forgeting 535eu worth tolls is a bit madness.

Domt they give you a notice after week or two?

I presume better call them and say if they can be more reasonable with it? Ussually people get better deal. It might go down to 250eu

Credit your account with the pre-fine amount and then bin any e-toll letters - it works ;)

Would you not just get a tag?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 393 ✭✭CheltenhamJ

I will try to bargain with them , am getting a tag but rarely use it so a bit of a waste as well , if I could get some discount it would be great

€535 sounds fishy, give them a call. If you only use the toll a few times, setup a video account. Tolls are €2.50 for a car, no setup fees and no penalties so long as you keep the monthly payments going. You can setup the account yerself on the web eflow.ie. Other tolls take money from you at the toll point so no forgetting there, but the M50 is easy to forget so get an account setup. I have a tag myself and its great. Never have to root in the skyrocket for change when you come to the tolls. Got a €45.50 bill once - lesson well and truely learned!

    Hello CheltenhamJ,

If you give our customer service team a call with your vehicle registration number on 1890 50 10 50, one of our agents will be happy to advise you. The centre is open between 7am and 11pm.

Just as some general information: when you drive through the M50 toll, you have until 8pm the evening after your trip to pay it (online, over the phone, in cash at a Payzone outlet). If you miss this deadline, you incur a €3 fine and a letter advising this is sent to the address to which the vehicle is registered. There is a two-week period within which to pay this. If payment is not made, a penalty of €39.50 is applied and there is an eight-week period within which to pay this.

Also, as Riprod said, a video account has no standing charges and reduces the cost of the toll by 50 cent, so it is suitable for infrequent users.

    Hope this helps :)

sweet...I had to fly out from Dublin airport last Saturday and went through the toll and had no idea what to do or pay.
It's not a very good system for someone that's never going through tolls (I'm down in Limerick) and only for coming across it on this forum did I remember about it...

    Hi ants09,

If a toll is paid, we close it off on our system and a letter is not issued. Sometimes what can happen is that the money paid for a toll pays off a previous toll that has been left open and the new toll remains open, generating a letter. eFlow double-check all letters before they are sent out, to minimise letters being sent to customers unnecessarily.

A good way to avoid penalty letters and having to remember to pay for each individual trip is to sign up for an account. Basically it means that you automatically pay for all tolls once a month and you get a cheaper price for each toll.

You can check out further details here.

Thank you for the feedback on our customer services, we pride ourselves on being extremely helpful when it comes to our customers. If you like, we can call you to discuss your previous experience and see what went wrong.

    Hope this helps. :)

    Hi ants09,

If you have any individual issues with letters or fines we are happy to assist you by DM or call you.

To answer your question honestly, we will not be publishing statistics about this on boards.

We admit that letters occasionally get sent out in error due to reasons mentioned in our last posting.

We have procedures to limit this and we have very strict systems in place to ensure that any case that is passed to our solicitor is a genuine one.

If a toll is paid against the correct registration before the 8pm next day deadline a letter will not be issued.

Let us know if you have any further questions and we will do our best to help

    Eoin

    Hi eFlow: Eoin

point taken but were can i get these statistics if possible ???

We have procedures to limit this and we have very strict systems in place to ensure that any case that is passed to our solicitor is a genuine one.

    Eoin

was there any case passed onto your solictor that was not a genuine one !

If a toll is paid against the correct registration before the 8pm next day deadline a letter will not be issued.

    Eoin

so your saying if somebody does pay there toll before 8pm the next day a letter will not be issued  somehow i find it hard to believe that this is the case :D

    Hi ants09,

I have checked this out for you and these statistics are not something that are published, apologies that we cannot provide them for you.

Just to reassure you, we have very strict systems in place where we screen cases passed to our solicitor. We have, to my knowledge, never brought a case to court where a toll had actually been paid by the customer.

You are correct in saying that if someone pays a toll by the 8pm next-day deadline we do not send out a letter. If there is confusion from either our side or our customers' side we investigate the issue for the customer. We really do want to make it easy for our customers to pay their tolls without getting fined.

This is one of the reasons why we have registered accounts with automated payment options and different usage structures. We also have four channels to pay through: Payzone outlets in your local shop, the website www.eflow.ie, over the phone on 1890501050 and by registering for an account.

Hope that answers your questions. :)

    Regards,
    Una

    Hi Una

first of all thank you for your reply

it is reassuring to know that there was never a case brought to court where the customer has actually paid the toll :D but has there being a case were it was passed to your solictors even where the customer had paid the toll on time either to the correct account or not !!!

WRT eflow customer service on the phone, I have found them very good recently.

I had forgotten to pay an M50 toll, remembering it after 9 days. I attempted to pay it online, but it would only take €3. I rand customer services, and the girl there was very helpful. She sorted my fine, then told me about the new system where you can pay your tolls monthly without the need or cost of a tag. You can also have multiple cars on the account.

She also pointed out to me that if we ever change any of the cars to take it off the account immediatly so that we wouldn't be billed for any tolls. Likewise for adding cars so that we don't get any unnecessary fines.

I had to ring up a second time as I couldn't activate the account when I got the letter out from eflow; again I got a very courteous and helpful guy who talked me through it.

All of that said, there is still the holiday issue; if you're flying out of Dublin Airport there is no obvious spot to pay the toll, which means that you come back from holiday to be met with a possible €40+ fine. This does need to be addressed.
