I have toilet downstairs in the utility which I wish to remove and cap the pipe and floor over it. I will keep the connection as I need for future reasons in the event I sell the property it's a requirement under buildings regs for wheelchair persons.

Would a wavin sewer cap be enough to prevent all odours, by removing the toilet I Would be removing the odour prevention unit ie the trap. What's best here

If you have a gasket left in the original sewer pop under the toilet you could just use a standard wavin stopper. but this would sit proud of the floor when installed.

What i've done is used a mechanical stopper inserted into the pipe and tightened up a few inches down below the floor and then filled in and tiled over. The floor will be flush over the pipe. The added benefit is that you can just break out the tiles and remove the stopper if you ever wanted to re-install the toilet at a later date as you say you do. See link below. You can buy these in most builder's providers.

    Hello Max,
Will the mechanical stopper guarantee odour from entering hr room?

    Hello David,

Yes the mechanical stopper will fully seal between it and the wall of the pipe. Once you insert it into the drainage pop up you twist the winder and it expands. This will prevent any odours or smells 100%

Yes max, however have you considered the stagnant foul gases from the termination point a the stopper from there back to Y branch to kitchen sink. What I'm saying is the stopper will prevent gases into room but what about gas build up under cap ?

There wouldn't be a gas build up at this point?

The original toilet waste pipe should be vented to an external stack (SVP) to vent any gases that were present.
