What the feck is wrong with RTE and their scheduling!!!
I recorded the two episodes of the Big C last night. I sat down to watch them tonight. They completely missed the ending of the second episode!!!. This never happens on any other channel... only RTE1 or Network 2.

Anyone know what happened, just as she is opening the door after her birthday party?

Seen this happen a few times, worst was on one of last few series of Lost on RTE. Anyway on that night there was major problem. Wife was recording Nurse Jackie or whatever the hell you call that thing, It seemed to be out of sync by about 10 mins. Don't worry, the Big C is brutal

Are your recorded programmes missing the beginning or end? This is generally caused by program schedules changing at the last minute and is difficult to avoid. We work with broadcasters to improve the accuracy of our program schedules, and your Sky box can handle changes to program schedules when the broadcaster informs Sky.
If you wish to manually set the recording to run over the normal scheduled time, perhaps because you believe a programme will be delayed or over-run, follow the instructions below. http://www.sky.com/helpcentre/tv/sky-plus/recording/beginning-or-end-missing-from-recorded-programmes/

RTE are a shower of losers.
They take your licence tax and then fart in your face whilst telling you we must all pull together in hard times.

Try the link above as it will add a bit of time on before and after the scheduled time.
Don't worry I won't charge you 160 Euro for the privilege.

Great Mikom, txs a mil! I'll be doing this for any RTE1 or Net2 programmes!

@Big Nelly, I have to disagree. I think the Big C is bitter sweet and has some great lines.
Laura Linney is great in the part as Cathy.

Yeah, this happened to me a few times too. Eventually I had to set the digibox to start recording 10 minutes earlier and finish recording 10 minutes later, otherwise, I'd miss the last 5 minutes or so of every episode.

Incidentally, now that season one is finished here, does anyone know if RTE will be showing season two soon, as I believe it's already started on U.S TV?

I can't wait to find out what happens next!

Always happens to me when I record any of their late-night films on RTE 1, which is particularly frustrating as they often have some good oldies on then. I've missed a few endings. The first couple I didn't realise till it just ended abruptly. After that I took to fast forwarding to check if it's all recorded, so I didn't end up watching most of the film first. I now always fast forward through to end before I watch it to make sure the ending's been recorded, while also trying to avoid seeing too much of the film while fast forwarding.
I always set the box to record ten minutes before and after the scheduled time as well, so their scheduling's really out of whack. I think once it gets late enough in the evening they don't care.

3e programmes often start two or three minutes early as well, but at least they're consistently early.

Yes, I recorded Hitchcock's 'Rope' on RTE there a while back, went to watch it the other day and it had cut off the ending. I'll never know what happened now, unless I catch it on another channel in the future.

Although, I also have the U.S Apprentice series linked on BBC1 and that consistantly cuts off before the end too. Sometimes, it starts as much as 10-12 minutes later than listed.

I have no idea why late night TV is so erratic and badly scheduled.

    This happens with BBC too.

I recorded the whole series The Trip and without fail missed the end of each episode.

Was that on the BBC HD channel? The same thing happened to me with the same programme.

I think it's because they had these annoying little segments on beforehand with this "comedy" interviewer guy going to different departments from different BBC programmes asking people questions about how the HD had changed things for them. They seemed to go on for ages.
I hated fast forwarding through them, and seeing the minute counter going up and up in the corner of the screen as the guy kept asking stupid questions, till I realised there wouldn't be enough time left for the whole episodee to have been recorded.

It was really frustrating as there was no point going on about how great HD was as I was already watching it in HD, and the BBC are usually much better at keeping to the schedule on their other channels.

Good to see everyone's as pissed off as I am with RTE's scheduling. I have been recording and old series called Hamish McBeth for the past few weeks and Invariably when I start playing the recording the last five minutes of Allo Allo comes on which always results in the recording cutting out 5 minutes from the end. The same thing happened with an old movie I recorded called Jeremiah Johnson with Robert Redford. I have never had this problem with any other channel only RTE the ****ing tubes cant be bothered to rectify the problem. I notice some people have posted saying they have set up a manual record on their SKY box could someone post back and tell us how you would go about doing that.

    Options menu - Manual Rec.

The other option would be Options - Setup - Add to End of Recording.

change this to 10mns and it should add enough time to cope wit RTE's woeful timekeeping.

For most properly run channels the Automatic setting works best, they send a live signal so the box keeps recording even if a prog over-runs. Of course the incompetent muppets at Montrose can't be doing with anything as useful as that.

I am betting that they also do not broadcast the aspect ratio of Hamish Macbeth correctly either, yet another technical area RTE sh1t all over.

Just looking now, 1994 film Terminal Velocity and RTE howing a crap 4:3 pan & scan version stretched, because Charlie Sheen hasn't got a big enough head already.

If a film is made of The Last Supper there will be only 6 Apostles in RTE's version:
