I am sure this topic has come up and have done a search but all the topics are over a year old.
We have decided (and booked) today we are going on the 3rd of Sept for 10 days.
We are looking for ideas of a venue, we are not flush and just want a simple wedding for a few guests.

Is there anything we need to do before we go ?
Any tips or things i will get caught out with ?

    Thanks in advance.

congrats op!! myself and himself tied the knot in vegas last november, you won't regret it :p you'll need to get your marriage license at least 24 hrs before the ceremony from the courthouse which is downtown. as long as you have all you paperwork that should only take about 20 mins unless there's a queue.

one bit advice i'd give you is where ever you end up having your ceremony DO NOT fork out for any extra photography packages the venues will offer you. most of their income comes from people getting swept up in the moment and ordering extra prints and dvd's of images - and charging through the nose for [what i personally would deem] not very great work. these are a complete rip off. if your wedding package includes a minimum amount of 4x6 prints or something then fine, get that - and then hire your own photographer to take some shots round the city for you. it'll work out far more economical for one thing - and you'll find a much better photographer.

PM me if you like and I can give you some contact details for the people we used.

Hey Dude heres some info on your foreign marraige...
Since 5 November 2007, a couple getting married are required to to give notification in person of their intention to marry to a Registrar at least 3 months before the intended date of the marriage. The notification can be given to any Registrar.

When you make the appointment with the Registrar you will be informed what information and documents you need to bring with you. Generally, you and your intended spouse will be required to bring the following:

    Passports as identification.
    Birth Certificates
Original final divorce decree if either of you is divorced. Further information will be required if it was a foreign divorce and you will require an approved English translation of the divorce decree.
Deceased spouse's death certificate and previous civil marriage certificate if either of you is widowed.
    PPS Numbers
You will also have to provide information about the intended marriage such as:

Whether it will be a civil or religious ceremony
The intended date and location of the marriage
Details of the proposed solemniser of the marriage
The names and dates of birth of the two proposed witnesses
You will also have to pay a notification fee of €150.

When you attend the Registrar you will have to make a declaration of no impediment.

The Registrar will issue an acknowlegement to both of you and the proposed solemniser of the marriage confirming the date of receipt of notification. This does not give you permission to marry.

If all the information required has been supplied and there is no impediment to the marriage, the Registrar will issue you with a Marriage Registration Form.

    Postal notification

If either of you are living abroad or are unable to attend a Registration Office due to serious illness, you should contact a Registrar to get permission to make your 3 month notification by post. If permission is granted, the Registrar will send you a form which you must complete and return.

You will still have to make arrangements to meet the Registrar at least 5 days before you get married in order to make the declaration. This is required before a Marriage Registration Form can be issued.

    Court Exemption Order

In certain special circumstances, for example, in the case of very serious illness, you may be able to get a Court Exemption Order allowing the marriage to proceed without the 3 months notification. You should contact either the Circuit Family Court or the High Court in the area in which either of you lives for details on how to proceed.

This is an informal procedure. You may apply in person (without hiring a solicitor). There is no court charge for an application for a Court Exemption Order. However, if you hire a solicitor to represent you, you will have to pay him/her. The court will require you to show:

that there are good reasons for your application
that the granting of such an Exemption Order is in the best interests of the parties to the intended marriage.
If you are granted a Court Exemption Order, you still have to make arrangements to meet the Registrar at least 5 days before you get married in order to make the declaration. This is required before a Marriage Registration Form can be issued.

    Declaration of no impediment

When you meet the Registrar you will be required to sign, in the Registrar's presence, a declaration that you know of no lawful impediment to your proposed marriage.

    Marriage Registration Form

A Marriage Registration Form (MRF) is like a marriage licence. It gives authorisation for a couple to marry and you require one in order to get married in Ireland. Providing there is no impediment to the marriage, the Registrar will issue you with an MRF. If you bring all the documentation and information required to the meeting with the Registrar, the Registrar may be able to issue the MRF immediately.

If the marriage does not take place within 6 months of the date of marriage given on the MRF, a new MRF will be required if you still intend to marry. You will be required to repeat the notification process.
    Best of luck
    DHD

er... none of what's quoted there was in any way relevant to our wedding in las vegas - there was no need to inform any registrar of anything, and there was no fee either. that relates to irish ceremonies, which would not be of use to the OP as they requested info on getting married in las vegas.

Are you legally recognised as being married in the eyes of Irish law then?

Yes you are legally recognised as being married. You are legally married in the US and Ireland recognises US marriages as legal.

When you get home from getting married you send a letter to the Revenue quoting both your PPS numbers advising them that you are now married and how you want your tax treated. You can call them to discuss if you want. There's no rush either, I did it a year after I got married.

When you get married in Vegas you get a certificate on the day but that's not the actual cert. You have to wait 2 weeks I think then you can apply online on the Clark County website to get a certified copy sent out to you. It's stamped and sealed and all that and costs $30 for two copies I think. You'll need that for getting passports if you're changing names and if you have babies in the future you need it for their passports.

I will second Artyva on the photography thing. I hear that Bentley and Wilson do great work. I was going to book them for my wedding there in Sept 09 but they weren't avaialble.

Check out The Knot it's like the US weddingsonline.ie they have a specific section for people having Vegas weddings!

Enjoy and good luck! We're heading back there this Sept for our 2 yr anniversary and I'm very excited!

Hi OP, Congrats on your wedding. We're just back from our wedding in Vegas 4 weeks ago and we had a ball. It was so fun I would recommend it to everyone.

First off, here the link for Clark County website, if you fill out ye're information on the site all you need to do is call to the courthouse with your reference number, passports and $60 and you have your marriage licence. You can register from 60 days before the wedding date. We collected ours the day before, having pre-registered about 3 weeks before we went over and we were in and out in 10 minutes. Use internet explorer though, it doesn't run very well on Firefox or Chrome.

    http://www.clarkcountynv.gov/Depts/clerk/Services/Pages/MarriageLicenses.aspx

I cant recommend Bently and Wilson highly enough, we used them for a 4 hour strip tour after the wedding and Todd was fantastic. We haven't gotten the pictures back yet but going on his attitude all day and what we saw on the camera I would definitely give 2 thumbs up. I agree with the girls about the photographers in the hotels, they will give you the hard sell but I was adament not to buy more and we only got what was included with the wedding package.

I can send you on some vendors I worked with if you like and feel free to contact me if you have any questions
