    x=3

    bring the 4 over to the other side and change signs

    16x -4 = 12x + 8
    16x= 12x + 8 + 4
    16x= 12x + 12

    bring the 12x over and change signs

    16x-12x= 12
    4x= 12

    thats 4x so for x divide both sides by 4

    x=3

    16x -4 = 12x +8

    Simply subtract 12x from both sides:

    16x - 4 - 12x = 12x + 8 -12x
    4x - 4 = 8

    Then add 4 to both sides:

    4x - 4 + 4 = 8 + 4
    4x = 12

    Finally, divide both sides by 4:

    x = 3

    So, your solution is x=3. If you've any specific questions just ask.

    Hi guys I have another one for you. I have notes on this one but I can't seem to follow them :o

    Q. 3/x+2 - 1/2 = 4/3

    Here is the next line from my notes,The bottom line is dropped because it's on top also?

    3(6) - 1(3x+6) = 4(2x+4)
    (x+2) (2) (3)

    Thanks

    Q. 3/x+2 - 1/2 = 4/3

    3(6) - 1(3x+6) = 4(2x+4)
    (x+2) (2) (3)

    If you wanted to add 1/2 + 3/5 the lowest common denominator is (2)(5) = 10.
    2 goes into 10 five times so 1/2 becomes 5/10. 5 goes into 10 twice so 3/5 becomes 6/10. Then 5/10+6/10 is 11/10.

    The same method is what they're using here.
    The common denominator is (x+2)(2)(3).
    (x+2) goes into (x+2)(2)(3) six times, so 3/(x+2) becomes 3(6)/(x+2)(2)(3).

    2 goes into (x+2)(2)(3) three multiplied by (x+2) times, so 1/2 is written as 1(x+2)(3)/(2)(x+2)(3) or (3x+6)/(2)(x+2)(3).

    3 goes into (x+2)(2)(3) twice (x+2) times, so 4/3 is written as (4)(x+2)(2)/(2)(x+2)(3) or 4(2x+4)/(2)(x+2)(3).

    Many thanks for your help.But I still don't get it. I've just wasted an hour by trying to figure it out again.
