Taxing my 2009 car

I've recently bought a 2009 car from a dealer. The tax was out of date so I have to tax it from 1st July 2011. Can I do this online or does it mean a trip to my local motor tax office. I've read through the motortax.ie website and I can't find an answer to this.

I picked up a car in March, with the tax out since the end of Feb.

I thought I had to go to the tax office as per my previous purchase 3 years beforehand, and did, only for a PIN for online renewal to come in a couple of days after the registration cert.

It seems they now have their ducks in a row and you'll get a renewal notice with a PIN to do it online soon enough. Will save you from taking a long lunch one of the days

The registration cert arrived last Thursday so hopefully I'll get a tax form in the post soon. Yeah, I can think of a lot of things I'd rather do than stand in a long queue at my local motor tax office.
