Hi all, I'm singing at a family wedding next month, however the bride and groom cant come up with a song that she can walk up the aisle to. The priest has said he doesn't want anything outrageous or tacky but is happy if it's a non religious song, we have all the other music sorted so if any of ye have any suggestions fire away. Also if ye have any suggestions of gaeilge songs that would be great too as a lot of the chapel music will be sung in Irish

    Thanks in advance

    Brid

Do not do anything contemporary, you will regret it as everyone will think it's naff.

stick to traditional stuff... In fact, ask the organist / other muscicians, what they think is good and what they can play / sing well. Quality of performance is key as misic at a wedding is commented on..

Songbird by Fleetwood Mac is beautiful... That's my wedding song! :)

Or Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel

Just some ideas.. These can also be instrumentals to make it even more classy. Another amazing one if done well is Everlong by Foo Fighters (heard a string quartet doing it at a drinks reception..sounded wonderful!)

I saw somebody walking up the aisle to Diana Ross's "Everytime You Touch Me I Become a Hero" (I bawled my eyes out it was beautiful)

Lovely song but the lyrics and meaning would definitely not suit for a wedding. It's a very sad song.

Oh sorry, I didn't realize you were having the procession sung. That's a pity, it has a lovely uplifting air. This is a Connemara man playing the pipes http://www.irishmusicweddings.com/, you can click on the music picker and it lists appropriate airs for each part of the ceremony.
Hope it helps. I'm considering Planxty Irvine for mine. Or maybe go non-trad and have Gabriel's Oboe.
I'm having a bilingual ceremony also, well trying to!
How did you go about it?
I'm fluent, priest is fluent, himself has only a few words.

    Thanks,
    Ms.M

I'm having "This is the Day" wedding song - not to be confused with the This is The Day" that we all know from our younger years...

This is the only point of disagreement between us...I would like she move through the fair but he thinks its too sad and not really suitable....

Pachelbel Canon on an organ is beautiful & what I walked down the aisle to.

What about Gabriels Oboe you can find it on You Tube.I think it's a beautiful piece of Music, that's if the bride and groom didn't mind music only!! Just an idea.

my sister sang at my cousins wedding "she moves through the fair" and it was lovely, might be an option for you as it's a very traditional song.

Isn't 'She Moves Through the Fair' about a woman who dies before her wedding and her ghost comes back to visit her love? I know a lot of people leave out the 3rd verse but I don't think it's really an appropriate song for a wedding, although it has a lovely air.

How about The Rose? (Bette Midler song- first line, "Some say love, it is a river")

    A very tender song

How about 'This I Promise You'?

Beautiful song and so poignant song for such a special day.

'My love here I stand before you, I am yours now from this moment on.
Take my hand, only you can stop me shaking.
We'll share forever, this I promise you.
And when I look in your eyes, all of my life is before me'

Such a beautiful song, for such a special day!
