Submersible pumps

    Hi All
Have been having real problems with submersible pumps down our well.
The first lasted for 2years before packing it in due to being clogged with silt etc. This one was left at the bottom of the well so that didnt help.We got a new one lifted it up about 15ft from the bottom but that one only lasted a few months before it had to be replaced. The third one bought last August packed up 6 weeks ago.We were initially told it would be replaced but now they say that too was clogged up and thats tough luck on us.All 3 pumps were PEDROLLO 4SR PUMPS.What Im wondering is do I have any comeback here.It seems to me that they shouldnt have given me the same pump if it wasnt fit for purpose. What type of pump do I need as it seems my water is very silty. We have filters fitted before we drink it but can a filter be fitted to a pump.Hope Im not too long winded but any help/information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

There is a company called NJ POWER based in ballymount. They dont deal with the public. However if you phone them and advise them of your problem then ask them for there nearest agent to you they will help you.

You are then left with 2 options.
    1. Buy that pump from there agent.

    2. But they same type of pump from another agent.

For my part what i have seen done in your situation is putting a cradle in the well. Sitting a tank on the cradle then putting the pump in the tank. Make sure there is enough holes in the tank but not to many. This reduces the amount of silt getting into the pump to particles the size that float which are usually acceptable for the pump.

Additionally buy a pump with a float switch and it will stop it dry running if the water is too low.

    Hi.243
There was /is a metal flue into which the pump was placed.
    Thanks

some times that flue doesnt go all the way to the bottom, before you go spending vast amounts of money, get the pump up and a wavin liner inserted and a cpl of barrows of clean pebble down it,that way no slit can fall from the sides and with the pebble inserted nothing can come up

Just wondering Poppo, you did not get these pumps from a co-op by any chance? I am just in process of getting the same pump put down my well this week and Pedrollo are the only pumps that they do. Would you recommend staying away from the pumps or is everything working ok now.
