expansion joint in external render?

Need some advice as my architect states that I should have had expansion joint on gabel end of house aprox 10m wide. This was not specified in plans and was pointed out to plasterer when he was rubbing it up.
I have looked at the Homebond house building manual and it appears that movement joints are put onto terrace houses of 3 or more with expansion slots built in at 12m apart!
Is there a spec for putting in "Movement joints in external render" without a movement joint in concrete blockwork behind such.
I feel slightly frustrated with architect!

You need to have an expansion joint in the concrete wall behind the render......
I presume this is what is confusing for you?

Yes correct but my architect had said that it needed one in the render only. I heard this second hand from my plasterer. My architect has said nothing to me since. The plasterer thought he was off his head!

That doesn't make sense to me, sounds like crossed wires somewhere.
Your 'architect' should be able to advise you better

I wouldnt agree with an expansion joint at all in a gable wall of 10m width. i certainly wouldnt just put an expansion bead in the plaster finish either.

I have seen an Architectural technician insist that a selfbuilder cut 2 expansion joints in the back wall of his house when the house was near completion. Criminal IMO.
