Which technology for a TV?

The last time I bought a tv was maybe five or six years ago, a 46" Sony LCD. After a quick first look around today at some retailer and review sites it seems things have changed a lot, as I expected.

There seems to be lot more plasmas about. If I remember correctly I think at one stage there were only a couple of companies doing them and people were predicting it's death knell. Prices also seem to have come down for this tech. I suppose you get what you pay for?

Do they still need to be run in? Is screen burn still an issue?

I know that LED screens have bridged the gap between LCD and plasma in terms of black levels. How close are they to the plasma, pound for pound?

I also read today that plasma uses a lot more power.

What else should I consider when deciding between the two? Ideally I'd like a 50", primarily for Blu-Ray.

And... which is the bestest? :)

The best is plasma, no run-in required and screen burn is no longer an issue. Panasonic is the brand to get. Power consumption has been reduced a lot and really should only be an issue in a hot climate. You might find this pertinent: http://reviews.cnet.com/best-high-definition-tvs/
