    Hi everyone,

I've applied to study for an MA in UCD starting in September 2011. Just wondering if I can apply for a maintenance and fees grant from my local county council. (I was eligible and received them for my undergrad years).

    Thanks!

I think it covers max up to 6270 of fees and then you get your grant as usual (provided you're eligble). I'm applying as well at the moment and the forms are very unclear but I think that's what's available.

Yes you can apply - they pay fees upto 6270 and maintenance - the form is at www.studentfinance.ie

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Does anyone know whether the student services fee is also covered if you get the grant and free fees for a masters course?

    Thanks

Depends on the college. There is no student services fees for masters in UCD but apparently there is in DIT

Cool. My wife has been accepted on a Masters on UCD and has applied for the grant which she hopefully will be eligible for. I was worried that we would have to pay €1,500 or so on a student services fee as money is a bit tight at the moment.

nope in general UCD don't charge an extra fee for postgrad but there is a student levy of about 200 euro - check UCD website

They all charge it , its whether or not its been incorporated into the price of the postgrad.

No the point is that UCD don't have a separate fee

They have their student capitation included in ALL OF THEIR post graduate courses ! As do most third level colleges.

Either way , The grant if you eligible for it will cover up to a maximum of €6270 that includes the capitation fee.

Hey there, I'm also heading to UCD in September for an MA.

I'm just wondering though, I need to pay a deposit of 500 off my fees - will I be refunded this when the state pays for my fees?

And if so, will it be from the college or from the council?

    Thanks-

I am in the same boat but with NUIG, i've paid my deposit and I've asked the fees office. I'm awaiting a response and i'll put it up here once i've heard.

    Hey An Cuinneach
I just got a response from NUIG, basically I've paid my 500 deposit and because I have recieved a grant for 3 years and will get it again, my student levy fee of 276 (i think) will come out of this and I'll get the rest back and my fees will be covered by my council.

I would say you'll get your deposit back but it might not be a bad idea to email the fees office in UCD.

    Hope this helps :)
