It's in the land just in front of the house, it appears to be something to do with the soakaway for rain water judging by its position. We have a septic tank (treatment tank rather) and I'm noticing the land around it is very soggy at the moment.

The blue bit turns, one way seems to lock it; the other at first let out a jet of water now only lets out water when pressed gently. The water doesn't smell at all. The area above was filled with water when I took off the cover today.

Sorry for waffling on but it's driving me mad.:D

    Thanks in advance.

Looks very much like a water stop tap. It looks like an internal one and not the normal square topped one. Is it a water supply going to somewhere else, barn etc? It sounds very much like its leaking. Does it point in the direction of neighbours houses?

Hi. It's not pointing towards any houses, just the field opposite. Now you mention it the tap is more or less in line with what I assume is a water mains cover just over the wall. The council are doing work with it at the moment (the water system for the area).

It could well be filling with water as a local neighbour caught the drain cover with his mower and smashed it a bit, it's been raining a lot recently.

Thanks for the reply by the way.

It looks like a philmac stop cock. Farmers etc use these to run water down fields on lengths of hydradare

Off builders use it to rung mains to houses although i doubt it would be left in the field had it been mains for your house.

    Definitely a Philmac isolation valve.
