Samsung "Firmware" Nightmare

I was foolish enough to buy a Samsung Blu Ray player.

I was wondering if anyone else out there has been stung by the "Firmware" Scam they run or is it just in the US?

Basically a message "Update Firmware? y/n" came up on the screen one day, I clicked "yes" to the update.

After the player downloaded and installed the new firmware, it ceased to operate. Open/close on the DVD tray worked and thats it. Basically the machine was bricked.

There is no solution. Samsung doesnt acknowledge the issue. It does provide instructions for manually downloading the firmware again and reinstalling it but of course that doesnt fix the problem you're just installing the same bad software again. ALl you can do is bin the player. It cant be fixed.

(You can send the machine back to Samsung who will charge a minmum fee thats more than the machine is worth.)

If you do a google search on "Samsung Firmware Problems", you'll get over 15million hits going back to 2008 when this first started.

Its absolutely disgusting and I'll never buy another samsung product again. I feel so taken advantage of, yes, the piece of junk was out of warranty (by a few months) but you never expect the manufacturer to actually disable your equipment and then have no recourse whatsoever. I feel violated.

    So be warned.
