When's the closing date for applying for a grant ?

And is it possible to fill in the form online (at home) and print out the receipt or whatever at the end somewhere else ? (printer doesn't work at home)

    Thanks

You can apply online at www.studentfinance.ie

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

31st August but this was extended last year and tends to be very flexible

Not sure - maybe try printing in a library or internet cafe

You'll get an email from the online system with a checklist and declaration form. You can print it off any time and place that suits you.

    Page 27:

the adjacent rates of maintenance grant shall be payable in the case of
students whose normal residence is 45 km or less from the approved
    institution which he or she is attending;
    (b) the non-adjacent rate of maintenance grant shall be payable in all
    other cases.

ah ****e, this has just made me realise something....

im 7 years here now having done my undergrad from 04-08. that means i will be put on the non-adjacent even though im from England right?

What? The adjacent/Non adjacent rate are decided on the distance of 45km - nothing else (I have no idea how they calculate the 45km)

For the last 7 years ive lived in Dublin, therefore I am resident here and so fall under adjacent right? It means I only get the 2k and not 6k towards my fees - or have I got this wrong?

The Grant is means tested on your income for 2010.
you need to fill in the form and send off.
you need to be 45km or more from the college.
special rate is dependant on your circumstances

If you live under 45km you get the adjacent
If you live over 45kn you get the non adjacent

There is a difference in the grant between the maintenance part of the grant and the fee part - The maintenance part is affected by the adjacent/non adjacent thing, the fee part is not

If you get the special rate at the adjacent rate you get 2445 plus fees

Well **** me im clearly clueless.

So just to let ya know my circumstances, finished my 4 year degree in 08 having got a grant for each year. Going to do postgrad now so its been 3 years. I will fall under adjacent so get 2445 and then as I am unemployed the last year and mature independent I am likely to get a certain amount in fees taken care off ALSO?

It's the distance of the most direct road route from the student's home to the college (or separate campus). How exactly it'll be measured I'm not too sure (but it seems to be a declaration by the student on renewal forms)

Yes - they pay upto 6270 fees

how i didnt know this is beyond me. i was under the impression that it would just be a maintenance grant and then i need pay the full fees myself. cant see any reason that i would be refused the grant then so hopefully can get both. do they also cover the student levy and admin charge that you pay at the beginning of the year on top of the above?

Postgrad fees are structured differently - some include the levy - some don't - so for example UCD have a flat charge that includes the Levy but DIT split it out - not really no is the answer - they pay fees upto 6270

Ah, so the 12.5k fees that my masters in UCD costs will include the 2k levy? You know if this includes the circa 200 quid admin fee too?

Thanks for all your help by the way mate! Much better than the people at the CoCo's who just fob you off

yes the 12.5k is all inclusive apart from the €200 euro student levy which you pay yourself.

I should probably get a job in this area

Thanks a mill, hopefully then by the time I get fees and maintenance I may only owe about 3.5k left in fees.

I would they would hire for sure! I think it'd be well worth them employing someone to take care of internet queries.

Getting my grant reviewed, can't get U.L to stamp it to confirm i'm doing a full time course until september, the problem is the form needs to be back to my VEC by mid august. Did this happen to anybody else?

If you look it up there is a chart with the grant amounts, cut off points and number of siblings if you are under 23.

So if you have a lot of siblings you're in luck, or your parents have a very low income you've got a good chance.

Fellow students I know with middle income parents and one or two siblings are usually the ones I have met who havent got a grant.
