My hours are going to be cut at work to three days, and I'm looking in to trying to claim the casual working allowance thing, what I need to know is if I am entitled, as I find the websites on this topic really confusing. I have been working and paying tax in Ireland for 14 months, I lived in England previously and paid tax for at least 2 1/2 years. Do these both count? Is it worth my while applying? I also went to university in Ireland, not sure if that counts at all. Any help or advice/info greatly appreciated.

you can have your contributions from the uk transferred to ireland and apply for casual jsb. this will take a couple of weeks as your local sw office will have to send off to the uk for your contribution history in the meantime you can apply for jobseekers allowance but you will have to satisfy the habitual residence part of your claim. You could also apply to your local community welfare officer for supplementary welfare allowance.
