    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good running trail route on Dublin Mountains? Never been up there before so any advice appreciated.

What would be best access point coming from cherrywood side of M50.

    Thanks.

p.s. would I be ok with runners? Or do I need trail shoes?

From Cherrywood/Shankill you there are numerous trails around Carrigologan/The Scalp. You can continue on the Dublin Mountain Way, which is trail route that brings you up to Three Rock, and onwards on a 26 mile journey to Tallaght. Unfortunately there is a significant amount of road between the Scalp and Three Rock.

For running around the aforementioned routes, runners are fine, as most of the trail is fire road, with little or no mud. I alternate between running shoes and trail shoes, but really, you'll be fine with runners. once you get up around Three Rock though the trails can be quite sloppy, so trail shoes might be a better choice.

Alternatively you could drive/run to Three Rock and head in various directions from there, including Cruagh, Tibradden, Masseys/Hellfire club etc. Other options include running sections of the Wickow Way, which you can get to from Johnny Foxes Pub, Marley Park, Crone Wood, etc. Here's a map of some of the sections closer to Dublin, though a quick google search will provide you with a wealth of information about the Wicklow Way.
