I'm thinking about it, but does anyone know if google+ has learned from facebooks mistakes about privacy and fcuking about with the settings every 2 months? I see facebook has changed the chat setting now and I haven't a clue whats going on. Sick of facebook and their crap.

So is google+ any good? I've heard some good things but whats this crap about invites? Can't anyone just sign up?

ah right, I thought it was officially launched last week. I take it when it is fully launched you won't need invites then

I'm using it and I quite like it. But to be honest I can't really say if it is any better than facebook as the whole "seeing updates from random people who you kinda know but don't really care about and the same in reverse" part of facebook never really appealed to me, so I'd say I have all of five posts on it.

There are a couple of things I hope they change on G+ over time, but so far I like it.

no come on, move it back to AH, I wanted an overall general view of it, there are enough threads about this in this forum, so can you move it back?

I'm on Google+ and am looking at ditching FB. Originally i was just gonna scale back FB but the new chat sidebar is probably the single worst "upgrade" they've done. I never use chat, have it permanently disabled and this new sidebar only disables it temporarily and as soon as i come back to my news feed it's up again.

It's driving me nuts and i'm trying to drag as many FB friends as possible over to G+.

So far Iv found Google+ to be pretty cool tho a few things like photo management and linking contacts from gmail could be done better. Video chat, stream updates of things your interested in are all handled much better than Facebook. Best of all the privacy settings are very easy to figure out unlike Facebook which can be a total nightmare.

All this chat about the privacy settings though, was looking at it yesterday and it says you need to keep your profile public, this is putting me off straight away.

Curious as hell about it as I've fallen out of love with fb the last few months.
Need to get an invite though...wish they'd hurry up and make it completely available.

Your profile is only as public as you allow it. There's sections for employer/education etc. but you can control who actually see's it. You can allow it to be seen by anyone doing a web search or only by friends in your circles or for total privacy, only by you.

Yeah, the only thing you have to keep public is your gender and full name

Been playing wit G+ for the past few weeks and will be winding down my FB over the coming months.

Only thing i can't fathom on G+, say i'm friends with one of you guys on it, but have no other contact, is there a way to write on your wall, or send you a message? Or does that have to be done via gmail, which to me, defeats the whole purpose?

On the Stream page there's a rectangular box that looks like a status update box. Write your message in it and then click on who you want to share it with. Sent to just one person and it only appears on their 'wall'.

I'm using both at the minute, I'm still trying to figure out Google+ though. I can't see myself moving completely from FB to G+ right now but I though the same about Bebo and FB

I'm really looking forward to G+. I don't really like Facebook. They are deceitful in their updates. It's small things like changing the privacy settings. When they did, they said sharing is fun and the more you share the better it is for everyone. They then apologized only after massive backlash.

Googles "dont be evil" policy and recent reluctance to totally bow to Chinas demands for censorship makes me trust them a lot better than Zuckerberg.

Hopefully G+ won't have the same crappy, John likes, "the feeling you get from turning the pillow over and other such tripe for people who like farmville and daily horoscopes.

I like Google Plus but not many people I know are on it. I struggled to get 7 friends on it and even a few of those aren't fully fledged members. Restrictions on the number of signups means a lot of people can only interact via Gmail.

Don't know if I'll migrate fully from Facebook though.

Personally, I think Google+ is dead on it's feet. My Google+ feed is still full of people telling me their wishlist for Google +. Pretty much nothing happening at all. I like some of the features and the mobile app works better than Facebooks one.

Perhaps it will change when they have business pages as brands might drive more people on to it.

due to the overwhelming numbers of people trying to sign up for google+ you can now only join by invite from a member,
if anyone would like an invite just give me a shout!

I think that's Good though, clearly G+ is still in beta mode but everyone is giving their feedback and a lot of it is being listened to.

Yeah exactly. It's early days yet. I'm sure Google thought long and hard about this before they decided to go ahead with it. To go up against a goliath like Facebook was never going to be easy.

That said, the privacy features seem to be the only thing it has going for it. Let's be real, Facebook has 3/4 of a BILLION members. 13% of the PLANET is on the thing. Unless Google reinvent the wheel I can't see them putting the slightest dent in Facebooks armour.
