I had it for a year. I think its a good idea to have some sort of public liability cover for sure. This policy is always recommended.

I have a more comprehensive policy from Allianz now which also covers vets fees and my trailer.

There are probably other options out there, I think theres a public liability insurance available through the HAI (hunting association) but I dont know much about it.

There's plenty of threads where this has been disscussed, but the BHS membership, with it's free insurance is well worth the money. If you hack out and are involved in an accident, regardless of fault the insurance company of the other party will come looking for you! Go to the web site and have a look around at http://www.bhsireland.com/ and see what you're missing. Plus if you decide to get more comprehensive cover for your horse with say http://www.allianz.ie/Horse-Rider-Insurance/ you won't have to cover those things covered by the BHS insurance. Riding without some third party cover is just plain stupid, how many 'close ones' have you had. If you want to get an idea of a tragic example go to http://www.horseawareness.co.uk/rdinc.htm (be warned that there are some unpleasant images). Lastly,Wearing hi-viz when riding on the road can give vehicle drivers a valuable THREE seconds extra ‘reaction time’ that could save the life of both you and your horse! To put it into context those three seconds are equivalent to a car, driven at 30 mph (how many cars do you see going that slow), travelling the length of a full size dressage arena!
