    Hi,

The kids hit the sky dish with a basket ball.

    So, the signal went altogether.

so, i re-aligned it manually by hand with no sat finder as I aint got one.
I got signal back as per this pic of the signal test screen.
    sky_1.jpg

Problem is, I hav'nt got all my channels back, like some of the kids channels are not coming back, and some othger documentary channels and also Sky1 are coming up as "not got a signal etc"

can anyone advise me please, what am i doing wrong? Don't want to get the local sky guy out, he'll do me for €80:(

    hope ye can help!

    Thanks in advance.

If you give us a list of the channels you are not getting then we can tell you which way to move your dish.
Alternatively you could try moving your dish SLIGHTLY in each direction (left, right, up, down) then check all your channels, problem with checking the signal levels you are seeing is it is only for the one frequency and that frequency never changes so check your channels, BUT each time you move your dish once and you find its no better then move the dish back to where it is now with the signal you are getting now, i.e. if you move the dish left and it's no good put it back to where it is now before trying to move it right, up or down. and same again until you get all channels, one of these 4 movement directions should get you right but the magic question is which direction, but the dish only needs moving SLIGHTLY in each direction

It can be done but patience required!

I echo rob the satman's sentiments.

Also, if you are relying on the on-screen level readings, remember to give it a number of seconds to react to any movements you make.

    Persevere! :)

The problem with those is that they don't tell you WHICH satellite you're aligned to.

Having only some channels is down to one of two problems :

    1) Slightly misaligned to the correct satellite
    2) Aligned to the wrong satellite

If it's definitely #1, then this unit will help you, "whistling" louder as it gets better aligned; if it's #2 then it won't be any use.

It will allow you to tune in and peak a satellite. If you select the wrong one then you can determine which one it is by checking on your receiver. Knowing which satellite you are tuned to will allow you to determine which way to move the dish and roughly by how much, for your desired satellite. So imo it would be worthwhile buying the meter.

I expect you have it sorted by now!

What's the signal like on the channels you do have?

Maybe the LNB is damaged or misaligned on the dish arm, it shouldn't take a month to align a Sky dish that wasn't too far off, as you had some channels.

no, not sorted by now, some of the kids channels are not working, some of the doc channels and sky1 is dodgy too..........think i'll buy that sat finder to try and get a better fix..........wish me luck lads.

thanks for the advice so far, I'm far from an expert on this.

You do have some "sky" channels? i.e. you are on the right satellite?

It looks like you've got reasonable signal strength on one cable input, pity we can't see the full bar. And your quality is very low.

Maybe the skew of the LNB was affected by the ball.
Assuming its sitting correctly in its mount, check that the rotation of the LNB is correct. (If there's a numerical value, i think it's 2 or 3. If there isn't the LNB should be slightly off vertical, near the seven o'clock position as you look into the dish.)

Also the second cable input has no reading. Have you checked all the cable connections are okay? Maybe remake the connections?

Post a photo or 2 of the dish from different angles, maybe some of us will spot damage or misalignments.

    I based in dun laoghaire,
I bough one of those finders on ebay (worth a shot for a tenner, i thought), but still open to offers from someone that can beat the €100 charge, out of curiosity how long does it typically take for a 'Sky Installer' to realign, curious to see how they justify these prices.
    Thanks,
    T

Sometimes the lnb can get twisted in it's holder, it might be worth marking it's position and trying to rotate it in the holder to see if it will improve the signal . Have you tried tilting the dish slightly forward on the vertical, as the ball may have knocked it backward. The arm that holds the lnb might have been knocked off line as well.
