Sky player for MCE finished!

The kids went to watch boomerang this morning and Sky player is no longer available on Microsoft MCE! I'm gutted, it was the best, most seamless plugin I've ever used, we have used it daily for years without fault, I only have 1 sky box and it was a perfect way of sharing the channels on a different TV.

Does anyone know if sky have any plans to replace it or is there an alternative to it? I hear that there is a new iPad app called Sky Go, but it looks like this is just going tore lace sky mobile as a sky sports only player, will this be capable of showing the normal channels too?

Lots of people saying the same on other forums. This is a diaster. Must try when I get home but it looks like it's gone. It was a great tool to have. Why the hell are they getting rid of it?
Jumping into the bed with apple would be my prognosis.

Yes it's gone for me too. Looks like it went on 6th July according to the Sky website which is only half up to date.
The new Sky GO is crap. You will need a keyboard and mouse to log in and resize the viewing window. The plugin for WMC was brilliant where your remote control could do everything.
Man i hate when big corporations don't listen to their customers. Just Google this and you will see loads of people who are looking for it to be reinstalled. Sky say not enough people were using the service so they got rid of it.

Anyone know of an alternative plugin for WMC?

I, along with a LOT of other people were on the other side of the fence and wanted rid of it, it was a pain to remove evey time I did a system change /reinstall using media center studio and manually from the channel listtings as it was there for everbody, even if you wernt a sky subscriber like me!!!

    Good riddence I say.

Not sure what you are talking about sky player was always an installable extra to MCE for me, as in I went an downloaded the software and installed it if I wanted to use it.
I have been using MCE for years and it was never in my listings prior to me installing it.

Which version? In my case, Windows 7 MCE installed the damn thing without asking and although you could remove all traces of it from the main menu with Media Center Studio, every time you did a rescan of channels on one of your tuners it popped up it's ugly head each time in the EPG forcing you to delete it again. Admittedly you had to subscribe to actually view, but that didn't stop it clogging up the EPG even if you hadn't subscribed.

It was never a choice, it was a push install that raped your Menu and Epg. Im not sure how you got away with it, I have win7 mce 32 and 64 bit which I reload frequently (constantly tinkering with it) and it got installed every time after a day or so.

    Edit,

May have soemthing to do with teh fact I set my location to UK for guide data purposes as most posts on other forums were from UK users complaining about how it was impossible to uninstall (microsoft actually said there was no supported way to remove it, Media center studio being essentially a 'hack')

No, I set my location to Ireland and the damn thing still installed without my asking.

Slightly OT, now that it's been scrapped I suppose it'd be too much to ask for MS to provide a proper way to eliminate it for good?

Never used the EPG for TV listings as I dont have an additional TV tuner connected to the PC so this Sky plugin was the business for me and many others alike.
Really disappointed that its gone - is there another Sky plugin for WMC or XBMC or Boxee?
Would love to have something set up in time for the football season and the up coming World Cup so as when I am banished to the other room I can watch it without having to log in 3 times and resize windows and fix things up like I have to now with the crap Sky Go Player
With the Sky plugin in it was just a case of fire it up and choose the channel you wanted and away you go

As an alternative to MCE's Sky Player...have a look at TunerFree MCE. You'll need to use a proxy in order to access the likes of BBC's iPlayer service, but the freeware Expat Shield works fine for me.

Edit: If it were possible to incorporate this site then it'd be perfect! :)

I just noticed it's gone too, although I only tinkered around with it once or twice, it only seemed to be of any use if you subscribed to an extra €15 per month for multiroom. I could only get Sky News to stream live with it.
