i phone not connecting to computer

    hi , i tried to connect my i phone 4 to my laptop and nothing is happening , it is not being recognised whatsoever , i installed the latest version of i tunes , it is a high speed usb port , i tried another device in the usb port and found no problem , i also tried it in another computer and it was the same , i tried another usb lead and nothing , its charging fine when plugged into a socket . i looked up the apple support website and found nothin of use , i tried restarting the phone too , i dont really want to restore the phone . any help would be appreciated

    have you tried holding in the home and lock keys for 20 seconds(soft reset?)
    or going into settings - general - reset- reset all settings?(this will only reset network/wallpaper/tones/etc you wont loose anything.

    If you are running windows you need to go to device manager and re-install the iphone driver.

    I didn't try doing dot reset as I wasn't sure if this would lose all my apps and photos , if I do this would I need to connect to I tunes to activate my phone again , as at the moment I can't

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538. Try this first as its normally the usual reason but alternately if you are running Zonealarm it can block the iPhone from connecting through a usb port.
