Seems to be pockets of us all over the place, I live in n16 and there's a sizeable Irish community around (first and second generation) plenty of Irish bars, irish music,
west london, like shepherds bush still have a big irish community, and theres an irish centre in hammersmith, further north neasden all the way up to harrow have pockets of Irish and a popular GAA scene.

I'm not hugely familiar with south london these days so no idea whats going on down there!

    where are you?

Shepherds Bush. Your surrounded by Irish. Irish pubs all down the uxbridge road through Bush, Acton and into Ealing. Landlord of British Queen has GAA affiliations i believe. And on the Goldhawk road i think its O'Donahues has live Irish music every week. Hammersmith has plenty about, as does even Chiswick which has Connollys going strong and showing GAA, and if you carry on up there is a good pub with GAA etc..O'Riordans.

Also if you try and do the Sunday crawl you will come across plenty of younger irish lot - The Church (Clapham), Walkabout (Sherpherds Bush) and then Red Backs (Acton). Its a mad one, but handy enough for you

Ruislip is west of where you are. I hear de are expecting about 6-7000 for the game with marquees etc.

This is the address - West End Road, South Ruislip, London HA4 6QX, England

So you can go on the tfl website - http://www.tfl.gov.uk/, journey planner and just put in your travel details and it will tell you how to get there.

Looks about an hour on public transport, but I would think if you get chatting to people you could get a lift back. A cousin was recently over went to a game and ended up getting lift back to bush, and on a session with lads in shepherds bush and acton.

I live in Ruislip at the moment, a few Irish people around here alright but it's more of a village feel here. I'm moving to Kilburn in 2 weeks though and that's supposed to have a good Irish community too.

Not many young people living in Kilburn, the cost of accommodation is very very high. There are some older Irish still living there but most of them have moved out or moved back home.

I just moved here. Living in Greenwich. No idea what kind of Irish numbers would be around here but will report back when I do :)

do indeed! are you working at theminute. Just wandering did anyone move over there own ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 153 ✭✭pirateninja

I moved over on my own in April.

Lots of Irish people in Clapham, Islington is another area with a lot of Irish people. I'm based in East London and there's a lot of us around here as a lot of Irish grads work in Canary Wharf.

"The Spinning wheel" next to West Ealing tube station, live music and a late licence at weekends - young enough crowd.

I used to be a regular in Reds Backs in the late 90's, good to see it's still going. Did the crawl just the once - a bit mad alright.

I just moved to Clapham. Irish accents and indeed GAA jerseys everywhere.

Seeing as it came up earlier...though id put the links up for the famous sunday crawl, which starts at 'The Church' in Clapham - http://www.thechurch.co.uk/, moves onto walkabout shepherds bush http://www.walkabout.eu.com/venues/walkabout-shepherds-bush/, and ends up for those still standing at Red Backs in Acton, http://www.redbacktavern.com/.

Cousin was over from Westmeath, reckoned sundays were too quiet in London...off he went to Clapham at about 11.30am, fell in the door at 2am after RedBacks. Reckoned it was one of the maddest days of his life, and even vowed to wear fancy dress next time.

I don't know if this is the correct place, I did post it in an emigration thread but I cant't find it now.

The London Irish Centre in Camden Town are currently conducting a very important survey into the future needs of the Irish community in London. Please help them in this very important topic, it will take less than 5 minutes to complete and if you can please forward it on to friends or relatives in London. More information here
    http://www.londonirishcentre.org/index.php/2011/05/06/survey-of-the-irish-in-london

    Thanks

Do not take pictures from these places and post on the net where work colleagues can access.

As a young and very dumb receptionist found out in our company

I'm kind of horrified that anyone would make photos taken in the BedRack the RedBack available on the internet, given its reputation...

If this is the same place I think it is next to Northfields Tube station (West Ealing doesn't have a tube station) it is now a Sainsburys local. Still tons of irish in Ealing though.

You're right on both counts. it was Northfields and it is now a Sainsburys. That's a shame, ah well.

There are tons of Irish people everywhere in London – rarely a day goes by when I don’t here an Irish accent. I really don’t feel the need to seek out Irish “communities” – I meet plenty of Irish people during the course of my daily life.
