I ordered the 16 gb iPhone 4 yesterday with meteor bill pay, 60 quid a month which isn't too bad 400 minutes and 400 texts and free calls and texts meteor to meteor, all my mates are on meteor anyway :)

I was just wondering has anyone else have the iPhone 4 with meteor and what is your opinion on it?? Good, bad or just alright???

I have an ip4 with meteor since last year, no complaints at all!

Fastest 3G network in the country by a mile!

It's only fast because it's so bloody hard for most people to pick it up! Their 3G network is shocking. Even where they do have 3G cells, the cell range is extremely low - they seem to operate at very low transmit power.

Example is at work, there's a 3G cell by all four operators in the grounds - Meteor is by far the weakest of the four - it's usually EDGE in the office with Meteor/Emobile, yet full 3G signal with Vodafone, O2 and Three. I can see the mast from where I sit yet I can still only lock on to EDGE!

Same at home, 1-2 bars of Meteor 3G on my iPhone 4, often dropping off to EDGE, yet I get full 5-bars from a Vodafone 3G base station located directly beside the Meteor one - both are not even 200 metres away from the house.

i have 3G 24/7, but i do live in Dublin, may be different in the sticks.

I got the 32gb iPhone 4 with meteor for €65 per month.
-400min, 400texts, free meteor to meteor calls & texts and 5GB internet!

Finding it great so far! I've always been with meteor but never billpay. 3G connectivity is great (I live in Dublin) Always full signal and fast.

I know a few people on bill with other operators and their bill has vat on top of the plan. I never asked about this and was terrified about the first bill but its all inclusive.

Download the app consume which allows you to view what you've used of your allocated minutes, texts and data!

Overall I'm very happy with meteor! :D

You won't know how you lived without it when you have it a day!! :p

I've an android at the moment with meteor on pre pay and I can connect to 3g most of the time depends where ya are in the house :P haha!

Well everyone seem happy with the bill pay, I was worrying if I would over go the plan but that app consume will help alot :D

I'm spending near 50 euro a month on credit at the moment so its about time I moved to bill pay :D

Don't see why you would get the iP4 now when the new one will be released in about two months?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 129 ✭✭RDMH

Maybe because it's free now but and any newer version may not be. Also there is no guarantee that Meteor will stock any newer version immediately upon release.

Can you use your data allowance to tether on Meteor?

    Yes.

Wow. That makes my decision to leave O2 even easier, they must be losing people in droves now.

I wouldn't be to bothered if a new iPhone comes out I would get it eventually! I think this deal is a bargain works out at 15 euro a week and sure I nearly make that an hour at work so it's great :D I'm not the biggest fan of o2 either they f*cked me over with their useless broadband

Meteor is unusable in my area(Dublin 11 apartment, signal is not picked up at all indoors), If I was going go on a contract with meteor for 18months I'd get a PAYG sim and test it where you live/work/are going to use it the most for a week or so 1st

Makes sense tbh, I'm o2 now but just out of contract. Holding out for the iPhone news then I'll most likely be gone, the Three offer for the iPhone 4 is excellent and if they do something similar with the "5" I will be kissing O2 goodbye for sure.

For the last 3 weeks or so, my sister and a polish work mate who are both with vodafone are getting download speeds of roughly 0.01-0.07 on vodafone and an upload of 0.02

The 3G network is unusable down here, and that's with a full 5 bars reception, shocking!

While in work I usually have to turn on personal hotspot to allow them to check emails and what not.

    Meteor FTW!!!!

I just got the e-mail of meteor there I need to pay a 450 quid deposit, I know I'll get that back but that seems a bit much to me. Has anyone had to pay a deposit that high for a bill phone. I think it's that high because I never had bills to form some sort of credit score only thing would be paying Microsoft yearly for xbox live and I only had to pay that once so far.

It is not a credit check, it's a credit score based entirely on the information you submit as part of the application process.

I've heard of a €300 deposit being applied to quite a few people, but never €450.

I was asked for a despoit of €105 instore today (never missed a payment with either 02 nor vodafone) and been a bill pay customer since 96.

So I just turned around and said I don't want the phone that bad to essentially pre pay my first 2 months especially considering its a 24 month contract.

My friend got asked for a deposit of 450 today, despite being a high usage PAYG customer for 7 years. We're going to be querying it on Monday as we suspect because her name is Eastern European that they may be cautious in case she decides to go run with it and sell it on eBay a few weeks later. Either way, it's a ridiculous amount of money to ask anyone to hand over, we'd have been happy with 250, but 450 was more than we could afford - we paid it regardless :(

iPhone is well known to attract fraudsters. Unfortunately this often means higher deposits are required than for other handsets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

Surely that defeats the purpose of a credit score application then? I mean if you're just going to ask a 7 year PAYG customer for a deposit of nearly 500 Euro on an iPhone, why not just be up front about the situation when purchasing bill pay iPhones - why pretend like the deposit's going to be optional?

TBH, Meteor are playing a dirty game with this one - I could understand an unknown customer trying to get a bill phone, but an established customer with a good spend? Seems a bit much.

Have Iphone 4 here on meteor, no complaints. Not about the network anyway!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 214 ✭✭kearney13

I can understand why it's high for me because I'm young and never had a bill phone before but 450 is just that bit too high I'll ask for a lower deposit but I doubt it will go down, but I can do without an iPhone I might go for a blackberry or HTC or something along those lines

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,793 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

anyone who pays a 450 deposit upfront, and then pays a high monthly line rental needs their heads checked to be honest!

If your floggin out 450 there and then, ya might aswell put an extra few quid with it, and buy the phone unlocked and go with a sim only plan! :)

I picked up the iphone 4 with Meteor here in Galway and besides the Network issues of constantly dropping the 3G connection the phone now has a hardware problem with the HOME button on the bottom not working.
It's driving me crazy. I've to turn the phone on and off to get back to the home page, once an App is selected i'm stuck with it until I reset it again.

For the Record I've come from a HTC desire on meteor and never had these Connection Drops.

the home button issue needs to be addressed straight away, get on to apple and arrange a repair.

regarding the dropping of 3g, are you jailbroken?

Strange logic TBH - when the deposit's returned, my friend will have free bills for nearly 9 months if she doesn't go over her allowance. Buying a Sim free phone wouldn't give that financial advantage in time.
