Hey all, I'm just new to boards.ie this evening so not really sure what i'm doin yet. I sold a van last year to a guy for €300. The van was in a bad state and i'm pretty sure he was going to scrap it and sell the parts.

Anyway trouble is I want to buy another van soon as i got a new job but i have realised when I sold the van last year i left the tax book in the glove box.

I have tried calling the guy I sold it too but his number is no longer in service and I don't know where he lives.

Does anyone know what will happen when i try to register a new vehicle if the other one is still in my name and can this guy be driving around in a van taxed in my name?

I'm kinda scared to ring Shannon in as I don't want to get nailed with a fine or something.

Any advice would be great guys, thanks so much.

you can have many cars registered in your name

it really don't matter... ring shannon anyway and tell them the situation that you sold the van and see what they say.

if you haven't gotten anything yet like toll charges or fines and the likes then either the van is no longer on the road or he found the book and changed it over

but if you need to buy a new van then its fine.

    .

Indeed, I have 3 registered to me at present but at one point had 11.

and your second bit of info there is right. OP should call shannon and/or motor tax office and tell them the story. It doesn't seem like the van's being used now or at least it hasnt been caught, once you get it on record that you're no longer in posession of it it'll be alright
