Driving home this evening and the brake pad fluid light came on together with the DSC light. Both yellow and not red so i continued on the couple of km home.

Not sure if its a great idea to drive into work tomorrow - so looking to hit a bmw specialist on the north side. any advice?

Could head to Joe Duffy's but is there anywhere independent that would be better and cheaper?

Service not due for another 5k as per the clock.

Thanks guys, its an E46 2005 320D. anyone know how serious an issue this is likely to be? Electrical or just purely a break fluid issue. concerned by both lights coming on. Going by the manual the whole breaking system could be shot??

Its unlikely to be brake fluid issue you can open bonnet and look at the level of it to see if its low. If you havent had any work done on car recently like brakes or tyres then it could be a few things like wheel speed sensor, steering angle sensor,abs/dsc module. Seeing as it has put lights on the dash then theyre will be a fault recorded so once its put on the diagnostic computer it will tell quickly where the problem lies.

thats amazing this problem has cropped up 3-4 times in the last 2 weeks on boards ,my experience on a 06 320d is that dtc /dsc unit goes faulty ,part is 200 fitting is 300 ,80 euro for diagnostic, bmw do a goodwill payment on part depending on how comprehensive your service history is ,mine was full bmw so they covered 80% of the part so im quoted 358 to fix the problem these are main dealer prices if you have full service history i would recommend going to main dealer on a previous bm i had a problem brought it to a specialist who made it worse finished up going to main dealer sorry i did not go first

Looked at the manual again and this seems to be it - feck thats some cost.

Are you certain they ll give an 80% parts coverage. How do i go about getting taht just ask? Bought from Murphy & Gunn 2.5 years ago and used them for last service

Hard to imagine what Brake pad fluid levels would have to do with DSC? That's your BMW traction control right? Is this not an odd combination of faults?

dsc uses the braking system so thats why they use that symbol also

ya dealer applies to bmw and they come back to dealer who lets you know, full bmw service is important, this has been a big issue in uk so bmw eventually gave in to pressure and started to do goodwill payments ,this fix cost 2000 euro when first arose, major parts replaced and no goodwill but people created such a stink that they eventually looked at cheaper way of fixing it and giving some payment towards parts.. let us know how you get on btw what milage on your car

80,000km on the car. full service history.

Light went off after few km this morning. Found this thread also.

Have contacted M & G and booked a diagnostics for Monday morning.

A good auto electrician or a good Indy would be able to sort this out. No point bringing a 6 year old car to a dealer.

The costs above are for an e90, which do have problems with a pressure sensor in the DSC units, I believe the sensor can be bought for €30. There's a few places that will recon the unit for approx €100 - €150

Do courtney motors have the correct diagnostic stuff if i brought it to them?

Also does anyone know if autotech is still there in baldoyle? There facebook page hasnt been used in months.

Wouldnt mind knowing where i stood today or tomorrow rather than worrying about how many arms and legs it might cost me over the weekend.

I would totally avoid bringing it to a main dealer - I shelled out 945euro on Wednesday morning to have my Mini fixed (they have BMW engines...). Was having a series of electrical issues (indicators not working, lights not going off, central locking acting up) and was told the control panel would need to be replaced. 2 days later, all the same problems have popped back up. Stopped into the garage on my way home from work yesterday, and told rudely to come back Monday. I've had to disconnect my battery as some of the lights in the car wouldn't go off when I got home! Dreading going back on Monday.
Would be interested to hear if Courtney's have all the diagnostic gear?

Is this not a little bit Irish??? Surely BMW deciding that it will only extend goodwill to you if you have been going back to them for your aftersales work, and not if you have been using a qualified independent garage outlet, (as is your right under EU block exemption rules), then this is illegal???

The issue here should have been whether there was warranty in place or not, and not where you got your servicing done if the vehicle was out of warranty, that's rediculous.

So basically you shelled out 1k, they replaced the control unit and the problem is still there?? That's mad. I hope you got your original 'faulty' control unit off them. I'm not sure if your going to be able to re-coup any of your 1k.
