    Hi to all!

My name is Alberto,35, I'm from Portugal and I'm a Bsc in Chemical Engineering. My background and experience is in manufacturing operations, quality and production management, 5-6 years of experience. I'm unemployed now and considering moving to London next September to try to get a job.
I have some doubts and would like to get your help:

    - considering my background and experience what are my chances of get a job in my area?
    - where to live? Can you please tell me wich are the most industrialized zones in London?
    - Do you think a 20K salary is reasonable to live in London?

    Any other tips are welcome!

Slim. Very few (if any) chemical firms in London, those that do exist tend to recruit from UK universities.

There is light industry all over London, the suburbs at any rate. Due in part to the clean air-act of the 1950's heavy industry & chemical industry moved away from the London area to the more industrial north. Birmingham and the Welsh borders are generally where the larger amounts of Chemical production now take place.

    - Do you think a 20K salary is reasonable to live in London?

No. Minimum live-on Salary is 25k in my opinion. It will of course depend on the lifestyle you lead.

Also suggest you ask on a UK based forum.

I lived in Manchester from 94-99. Manchester is a lot cheaper than London. In 94 I earned £18k so I would think that 16 years later £20k in London would be very poor pay.
