Hey all, just a quick question, where can a fella watch the Meath Galway match this Saturday online or on tv? Going to Navan is not an option :(

Sorry to say it isn't being shown buddy. Your best option is Galway Bay FM.

Suppose we can use this for the match discussion.
A man whose name sends shivers down every Meath fans spine is refereeing the game tomorrow. Michael Collins. *shudders*

He send shivers down the spine of most GAA fans TBH

Never forget someone shouting at him during a Dublin match once:

"They shot the wrong f**king one"

The laughter in our area of the stand was never ending!

Ollie Murphy was meant to have said that to him after a game about ten years back

He really is shocking. We had him in the final against Galway in 2001 and he was atrocious. Then the following year he was even worse when we went out to Donegal. Think this is the first Meath championshp game he's refereed since then.
But bad ref or not we really should be beating Galway in our own back yard.

If ye lose to Galway you seriously need to just hide in a dark corner.

Yeah that penalty he gave to Meath for McDermotts dive was a ridiculous decision. Thankfully it made no difference to the result.

Anyway, its hard to have any confidence in Galway after the last day, but O'Flaharta has picked a very promising team for tomorrow, most exciting Galway line up for a while. I'm cautiously optimistic

im fearing a galway ambush later on.we kicked a lot of wides against louth and i dont think well be let in for five goals as handy this time out.

You can always imagine an ambush coming from Galway but to be fair, they are incredibly soft outside of their province.Since 2001 I think, they haven't beaten a team outside of Connaught in the championship and haven't won in Croke Park for 10 years now.

Much of their team is over the hill I think and I also think Meaths forward will really put it up to Galway, particularly if they show up like they did against Mayo.

If Meath fail to win this,I'm sure it will be the end of Banty for Meath.Meath have this setup nicely.A nice home draw against a vulnerable Galway side where they should win and get another win under their belt and restore confidence.

Meath may just reach the All Ireland Quarters this year.

impossible to find a stream anywhere for it, just shows how much interest there is in the qualifiers....

Jaysus we should be out of sight. 8 points to 4 at half time. We've had about 12 or 13 wides so far. Huge crowd in Navan.

why would there be a stream?? the purpose is for people to go to games, they can only televise 1, max 2 games...

streams are normally a sign of somebody who puts them up, nothing to do with the level of interest in the qualifiers.

COME ON GALWAY! Keep it up

G'wan Galway, a point up and 8 mins to go!

Meath scoreless in the second half

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 497 ✭✭Mr Keek

    Feck!

Meath can thank their keeper for saving that goal. We should have gone for the point! Take it into extra time!

Sweet Jesus. That was terrible in the second half. Why did the Galway forward go for goal at the end? Don't think I've ever seen such a bad display of shooting from us. I'd be interested to see the number of wides we had. Must have been about 20.

    Who won in the end?

    Who won in the end?

Meath by a point. Galway had a goal chance at the end but was saved.

Meath defence and midfield played well imo. It was the lack of being able to kick points that almost cost us. We outplayed them apart from that and created endless chances. Why yer man went for goal at the end I'll never know!! Kevin Reilly man of the match by a mile.

Is the next round next week?

A good team would have put us away today

I cant agree there...I thought that our midfield were very poor.Shane ORourke anonomous besides some punches down to Kenny.

Defence were very good, K Reilly & McAnarney the pick of them but in general they worked hard.

In the forwards Kenny and Bray worked very hard. Cian Ward was guilty of an horrendous miss from a free. he also failed to take a point on a few occasions that presented itself. joe had an ok 1st half but, once he scored he went for a score on several occasions that he should have laid the ball off.

This team seems to have no real method of play up front. Paddy ORourke cannot start the next day, Joe has to go in FF though I am not too sure who can go CHF. The irionic thing is that our physio is probably still the best man for that position!

Whens the draw for the next round, tomoro? And whens the next round? I heard it was next week but surely not if Wicklow v Armagh is gone to a replay?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 11,465 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hammer Archer

Draws tomorrow. Matches will be next week I think apart from whoever gets Wicklow/Armagh.

Thought the entrance price was v good at Navan tonight, 10 yoyos for me and free for the 3 kids and so did a lot of others because both stands on each side of the pitch were jammed, and the grass banks behind the goals were well filled too. As far as the game went, first half was good for us (Meath) but we shot too many wides, we should have been out of sight by halftime, lucky too that the Galway goalie was not up to taking the 45s. We led 0-8 to 0-4 at the break. The 2nd half though was terrible, taking the ball so many times up into their danger area and the Galway defence coming back out with it, or us just kicking it wide. Galway worked their way back in bit by bit and fair play to them, but they werent targetting Joyce to any great effect and when they did send the ball his way, thanks to Kevin Reilly he was pretty much taken care of (Reilly definitely pro-fouled him just outside the penalty area when to let him go would have been a sure Galway goal). The best value came in the last few minutes when Galway had the lead for the 2nd time and the game was in added time, Meath came back with 2 points and in the dying seconds Galway went for a goal only to have it saved right on the final whistle. Most players seemed to hit the ground at the whistle as their legs went from under them, must have been hard on the energy levels, Joyce on his back in front of where I was with the fingers over both eyes - great player.

For such a huge crowd the atmosphere was really dead. The gaa are all to blame for this. It was 99.9% Meath support due to 1. The location
    2. The lateness of the kick-off making the journey for Galway fans even more awkward
    3. The fact that the hurling match was on at the same time.

This gave Meath a great advantage, maybe that's why the Galway goals were movable in the second half.

But meaths performance is absolutely nothing new. In the first half, the played as if they could actually be contenders in the latter parts of the competition... A few more wides than what is acceptable but you would forgive them for that.

The second half was like us against Kildare 2 years in a row, Louth last year and every league game this year: insufferable. The fitness level of Meath since the boylan era has been our Achilles heal. What ever was in the herbs he gave the team obviously must not be legal anymore.

As for our players, i thought everyone apart from the front six played well. Reilly was a monster today and will be key to our advancement.

Galway were every bit as bad as what we were expecting though. Any team in Ireland would have beaten us tonight by our second half performance. 11-10 is a very bad score considering the perfect conditions for the game.

Well we are still there I suppose and we always do better as underdogs as long as we avoid Kildare in the next draw

the backs were great last night kevin reilly was the best player on the pitch by a mile and shane mc was solid centre half.if the forwards can fix their shooting wed trouble most teams but on the other hand kick that many wides again and a better team would hammer us
