    Hi All

I bought car recently and haven't got book (now is almost a month) .
I'll called Shannon and they still have old owner name in the system.

I tried to chase guy who sold me car but he left country already and not coming back - someone else live in his apartment.

What I found out from Shannon I need:
    - some kind of declaration (Statutory Declaration if I'm correct) to fill in
    - garage inspection to proof that car is with me now (serial number of engine or something)
    - peace commissioned to sign it as proof of ownership (or something)
and sent it all to Shannon and hope that they will sent new book to me ;-)

    So my question is :
what the hell is this declaration ??

I went to Gardai station and guy there look at me as I was from different planet.
I look thru net but no joy.

Does any of You here was in this kind of situation and can help me ?

    Tom

Shannon should provide you with this form
You need previous owners name and details
Signed by gardai and commissioner of oaths/ solicitor and a postal order for €12. Return to Shannon and you get logbook after 3/4 weeks if the previous owner does not respond.
You will then be declared the new owner

they just told me what to do and hung up.

what about visit in garage shop to check the car ?

Shannon have to send you the declaration form in order for you to fill it out

You will have to take the car to a garage/main dealer, they need to verify the chassis number and registration number and stamp your declaration form.

Its an utter nuisance to be honest but needs to be done if you want a logbook

If you require a replacement document for any of the following, Form RF134 must be completed and witnessed by a member of the Garda Siochana at a Garda station and presented or posted with the appropriate fee to your Motor Tax Office (pdf, 34kb)
Registration book - Replacement Fee 12 euro
RF 101 Vehicle Licensing Certificate /Registration Certificate - Replacement Fee 12 euro
Tax Disc - Replacement Fee 6 euro
    Trailer licence 6 euro
Certificate of Roadworthiness (light and heavy) 7 euro
Cheques should be made payable to your local County or City Council.

Just going to post up my procedure for buying a second hand car from a private seller and making sure that the car goes in your name as I see this so many times and to be totally honest its a pain to get replacement papers if the previous owner has left the country or is not able to be contacted.
Im assuming youre paying in cash for the car.If its a cheque or draft you`ll have to agree whether to wait until its cleared before sending the papers on or not.

I hope this helps others out in future.

    1.Buy an envelope.
    2.Put a stamp on it.
3.Put the Shannon Address on it.
4.Go see the car and make sure you have envelope with you.
5.If youre happy get the previous owner to fill out the back of the ownership papers with your name and address while you are there with them--do not allow them to say "I`ll do it later and post it on"
6.Put it in the envelope that you brought with you already stamped and addressed.
7.Go to the nearest post box with the seller.Hand them the cash and put the envelope in the post box at the same time if you want. Now officialy the car is in your name and youre not relying on someone else to post it off.

Guaranted to save loads of hassle every time.

The form you are looking for is an 'affidavit'. Should be able to get at your local Garda Station. Fill out the form outlining the reasons that you do not have the log book and that you are the owner and this is then signed by a commissioner of oaths. Send it off to Shannon and you should get your log book

[[[[[[[[[[Change of ownership - Person purchases vehicle, previous owner has lost VLC/VRC or person cannot locate previous owner.

    For vehicles registered after 01/01/1993

New owner get affidavit completed & sends the form*to*Shannon directly themselves or take the completed affidavit into the Motor Tax Office who will forward the form to Shannon (there is no necessity for an RF134 form*to be completed nor is there a fee involved). Shannon will then update the Computer System with the new owners details and a new Vehicle Registration Certificate will issue to the new owner. ]]]]]]]]]

Try or your local Garda station for one of the forms.

I'd say he's probably sorted by now....the thread is nearly a year old.
Start a new thread and look for an answer to your problem

    Or try PMing the OP.
