want to work with wood help !!!!

HI can someone please help me !!
i have great passion to learn and work with wood, my passion for wood has always been more of a therapeutic hobby. But I crave to learn more, I want to understand the different woods and all the tools used to turn a peace of natural beauty into a peace of art or furniture.
i live in Wexford and I have searched and researched everywhere in Wexford for a full time course in “woodturning/ sculpting”, “cabinet making” and furniture making but I continue to come up against a brick wall. I found one course that I got accepted for which was “furniture making”, but yesterday I received a letter to say that the course will not go ahead now due to reduction in teacher allocation !!!
ideally i would love to do an apprenticeship and work alongside a professional and learn and understand everything about wood.
im a single mother with a income of part time work and welfare, so im limited to funding tuition for my self and how far i can travel.
can anyone offer any information and advice on what i could do ? what doors to knock ? and where to look for help to get an apprenticeship supported by the government ?
any information would be sooooooo helpful
    thanks

Here is another link which might be worth investigating. The courses are not far from Arklow.

I'm looking out for something too, thanks for the links. I think it's pretty hard to find an apprentice these days. The VEC is a good idea. I did hear a rumour that FAS were going to change the apprentice system but I'm not sure how that would work.

If anyone has anything else that would be great, I'm in the dublin area.

Nice one! I'll do a bit of research into the possible new FAS apprenticeship and will let u know if I find anything. Also one for you... Possibly you will find something I might have missed ... Register yourself online with the "crafts council Ireland" they have been very helpful, I'd say they could offer you more information than me as your living in Dublin. And dublin will have much more resources available than Wexford. Let me know how you get on or if you find anything.
    Thanks

hey did you find any courses or an apprenticeship? if you are interested in a two day course, basically a brief introduction, but you get to meet some good people and stay in a nice forest, check out CELT weekend in the woods if you dont already know it.

I am in wexford also and have been trained in furniture design and would like to get some work doing something along those lines, anything working with wood really, in fact any job at all at this stage!
