I love vintage wedding dresses but am wondering is it best to go actual vintage or vintage-style? Has anyone had the same dilemma?

I am having my dress made and it is 1950's inspired. The theme of my wedding is vintage to a degree. I am going to make my own vintage brooch bouquet, my cake will have vintage (or faux vintage) brooches, my hair style and shoes will tie into that as well.

There is a great vintage bridal gown shop in greystones I think it's called " The Godess Room" it was on "Don't Tell the Bride" programme earlier this summer. Also there is that one on Wicklow street in Dublin called Dirty Fabulous. Another one called Vintage BRide on Mount Street Crescent, Dublin 2. Go try a few original vintage on and some vintage inspired and then you will know more.

I went for the made to measure because I wanted a couple of "detatchable" items. For example my shoulders and chest will be covered during the ceremony but that piece is detatchable and I will have wide staps made from the same lace as the bodice for the party. I got mine in www.tamemmichael.com

    Good luck

    Hi,
I really wanted a vintage dress but ended up getting a vintage inspired one because I just didn't find 'the one' as they say. It was just too hard to find a dress that I really liked, fitted properly and didn't look too battered. As the above poster mentioned Dirty Fabulous and Vintage Bride are lovely shops to visit and the girls who work there do their best to help without being pushy at all. Vintage Bride also has a range of new vintage inspired dresses from the Vintage Wedding Dress Company in London, you can see them on the website. I loved the 1940s one but am really glad I didn't go for it in the end because it's too similar to the Pippa Middelton bridesmaid dress! I didn't like the Goddess Rooms at all though, I felt the dresses were all leaning towards costume dresses and the lady I dealt with was very unpleasant.
Don't rule out one or the other, just give yourself some time to search and talk to people and always try on everything because you never know what you're going to actually like on you!!
Best of luck with the search.

My mum got hers in a charity shop, it's antique lace and very beautiful but I think she got lucky. However, a good cleaner (I sent her dress into the dry cleaners in Andrews Lane D2) will bring out any battered dress within reason of course.I think you should have a look around but depending how much time you have to spend will make your decision for you I think...
