They were building a second ring on that stand and Dutch TV are reporting that someone steered a crane into the construction which bent a pillar, and caused the temporary support to collapse.

This is terrible, I just read on Dutch news site that hey are using dogs and thermal cameras to look for more people under rubble.

Hopefully the numbers don't increase but I'd be worried as there are often large numbers of people involved in building projects.

    More pictures

Still searching for people who might be trapped under this mess.

Twente were supposed to play a Champions league qualifier in this stadium in 3 weeks time. imagine the chaos if it would have happened then.

As it's a construction accident, it seems like it wouldn't have happened on a matchday, but still, to think of the tragedy if that stand had been full of people.

RIP to the dead person, and hopefully everyone else gets out okay.

Now confirmed on Dutch news that there is nobody else trapped under roof.

One person confirmed dead and one person seriously injured in hospital.

No details yet available as to cause of accident.

Club chairman says that club is in complete shock and has deep sympathy for the victim and family.
Players training Camp in Zeeland has been called off as players return to club.

Also said it's too early yet to talk about football, but there are now doubts over Twente's participation in Champion's League as there will have to be an investagation as to cause of accident and rest of stadium may have to have a safety inspection.

Nothing in the Dutch newspapers about not playing the CL qualifier.
Only thing said about that by twentes chairman is that they dont know yet if they will play in their own stadium.

I read it on a blog on NOS.NL.

Now they are saying that games could be in Gelsenkirchen.
