UCD: Get Involved with the First National Study of Youth Mental Health in Ireland

The University College Dublin School of Psychology and Headstrong - the National Centre for Youth Mental Health are currently conducting the first national study of youth and young adult health and well-being in Ireland. The survey is being completed by over 10,000 young people aged 12 to 25 across Ireland.

We are inviting any groups, clubs or organisations to take part in this research. Specifically, we are looking for any groups that would work with or have members who are 18 to 25 years old and either of the below:

    1. Currently unemployed
    2. Currently employed without attending post-leaving certificate education (i.e. entered the workforce after completing their leaving certificate, junior certificate or left school without completing neither)

The research is particularly important as there is limited information available on the mental health and well-being of young people living in Ireland and the results will help us to develop services and supports that are specific to their needs.

More information about the research can be viewed at www.ucdheadstrong.com

We realise that in some cases there may only be a small number of individuals involved with an organisation who fit into the groups we are targeting, however, if we managed to recruit even these few to complete the survey it could make a significant difference to our research.

We are more than happy to provide a cumulative report of the findings to the key staff members of any organisation or group who get involved.

To get involved you can fill out the contact form at the bottom of the website www.ucdheadstrong.com and we will contact you about the best method of recruitment.

    Many thanks for your time.

    Hi all,

We just wanted to mention that the information you give to us will influence and shape the provision of supports and services for young people in Ireland.

The development of effective services for young people is dependent on the information you provide to us in this research.

So if anyone does know of any groups that work with people who are currently unemployed we urge you to please get in touch.

If you are a business owner or manager we also really want to hear from you about possibly having an email passed to your staff members requesting their help completing the survey.

The involvement of each group, organisation and individual remains confidential.

    Thanks again.
