    Hi all
Anyone got any ideas about the following,
    wifes car 2003 pug 307 1.4 hdi 110k miles, oil+filter changed every 5k,
dont drive it very often but always found it a bit on the dead side, no great acceleration, had to go on a run with it yesterday and nearly cracked up.
it will spool up to 100km eventually and cruise ok but on a twisty road I seem to spend a lot of time in 3rd, diesel consumption is around 40mpg, should be better.
Should I be looking at the turbo or the cat.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

Firstly check for any leaks in the intercooler pipes.

I would also think the Air Mass Flow Meter needs replacing. They can be got cheap here:

or look for the Commercial Ignition brand of Mass Air Flow which are very well priced at your local motor factor.

Aye was going to post the same. I know of someone who drilled out the cat on theirs, solved the problem and still passed the emmisions test for the nct. He didn't want to spend money on it.

Thanks to the previous posters for pointing me in the right direction.

    1.4 HDi 307 2004

    Symptoms:
Very low on power, maximum speed 80 Kmh, no fault codes on ECU, poor fuel economy

    Solution:
    1. Remove Catalytic converter - its the section just after the turbo and splits just below the sump.
    2. Inside the cat you will see what looks like an asbestos ball., this is the element which has shrunk and become detached from the inside of the exhaust , blocking the flow of exhaust gases. Knock out the element ( using a bit of force) and put the Cat back on the car.

I recommend removing the rad to do this job, makes life much easier!

Problem solved. Running better then ever.
Not sure how it will do on the emissions test but NCT is not for another year and a half, so will worry about it then

    Note:
You could buy a new cat and replace €€€

I had this problem before and it cleared itself, I can only assume the element moved a bit in the exhaust and solved my problem. It drove okay for about six months and then happened again, with worse symptoms. During this time it went for an NCT and failed emissions, popped a can of diesel treatment into the tank and passed retest.
