Audi A3 1.6 loud exhaust

Hey Guys,

I have a 2008 A3 1.6 sportback ambition with 70kms on the clock which I recently purchased from an SIMI dealer (not an audi dealer). Over the passed few weeks the exhaust seems to have got loud and a few friends have commented on it. The loudness is coming from near the rear of the car. I took it back to the dealer and the dealer said there is no hole in it. I persisted that there was a problem and the dealer agreed to investigate further. I heard back from the dealer today and he said he had been in contact with other audi dealers and assured me that it is normal. I am really not convinced and really think there is something wrong.

Any ideas what the problem might be or are audi a3 1.6s known to be loud?

it does sound like a hole in the exhaust...

best thing to do is to bring it to another mechanic for a second opinion.. or if you just want a quick look, bring it to a fast fit and get them to put it up on ramp and have alook... when they give u a quote for repair ( if any needed, just say thanks and u will be back to them)

thanks for advice, second opinion seems like way to go, any idea if the 1.6s are known to be loud?

last audi a3 i drove was a 2006 iirc... it wasnt any louder than other 1.6's

considering u said that the noise seems to have gotten louder would indicate there is an issue

Put your hand over the cold (engine) exhaust and get someone to rev it. Youl know soon enough if theres a leak.

the dealer said he put a rag in the exhaust to check, I was not there when he did so though
