Steering Joint on Vectra B

    Hi All

I have a Vectra that’s making a kind of strange knocking sound. I have replaced the drop links and it made no difference.

Doing a bit of research it appears the problem may be the steering joint. Below is a "How2 Fix it Guide"

Trouble is there are no pictures and I don’t know where the problem area is. Could anyone advise which two bolts the below guide talks about?

    Thanks

HOW2 - Fix (not replace) steering joint

And it works because I've done it.

Tools - small torque wrench (for low torque settings) e10 female torx socket, threadlock

    1. Take off cover by pedals (under dash) to gain access to the joint fully.

2.The two arrowed bolts are the ones to take out (do one-at-a-time to stop any unnecessary movement to joint).

When you take the bolts out, apply the thread lock and then put back bolts

IMPORTANT - Bolts need to be properly torqued

Bottom bolt - 22nm (16lbf ft), then another 45 degree turn, then another 15 degree turn.

    Top bolt - 22 nm (16lbf ft)

After this is done the threadlock takes 24 hours to dry properly.
