    Hey all,

Quick question , we have a client who has 2 offices ,however neither office is up to hosting a server with an adequate connection to allow dial in from the other location.
Server is used by the remote office mostly for exchange , terminal server etc. nothing earth shattering.
A possible solution is to move the server to a place with adequate bandwidth and have both sites terminal service in to get their work done.
Is this whats known as "renting rack space" ?
Or am I looking for a different service ?

    Thanks

What kind of WAN connection do the offices have ?
Can you upgrade the connection !?

If you move to virtual server hosting, you may have, more or less, same problem with the WAN links being slow and dropping connections.

For Exchange access, you can use OWA (Outlook Web Access) over various methods of connectivity.
For server access, you can use VPN.
For Application usage,TS works fine if yoy reduce all graphics effects and used only for LOB that does not requires graphics processing (CAD like).
What other applications your users needs access ?

If you need only basic emails,Office documents, then Microsoft Office365 has just being launched...

Financial,a Virtual server is not coming cheap...

    Howdy ,

Download speed isnt too bad (one site 8mb the other at 5mb) its the upload speed thats killing it.Its mainly docs , but also the likes of sage , act (damn its eyes) and another bespoke sql database.
The hassle really is that both choices of where the server could be hosted are crap.
Office 365 would only solve around 40% of the issues I'm afraid.
Already using vpn and the speed really isnt good enough , 5 - 10 users coming down a 5 mb line just wont deliver a 2mb word doc / pdf in time.
Using terminal server is just about usable , but using outlook , sage , micropay and act gets very messy very fast.
For some users OWA is in use , but we're dealing in mailboxes in excess of 2 - 5 gb in size.

Ball park figure on virtual servers - are we talking 1,000s or 10,000s ???
