Guys, I was wondering about this scheme.

Is it any good? How exactly does it work, been googling it here but still not fully clear

I'm a teacher, thought I might be able to avail of it

Shouldn't you be on a holiday somewhere :):)

You find the bike, tell your employer - they pay for it and you get it.

Deductions are made from your ENOOOOOORMOUSLY generous salary that you get for doing feck all work:), before tax is calculated - so you're essentially getting about a 42% discount on the bike.

I'd say nearly all the bike shops are participating in the scheme now, and you can also buy online.

Would you go through the school or does it have to go through Department of Education? Not sure how quickly the Department turns applications around.

Thanks. That explains it a bit better. As of last week I'm out of a job due to cuts but if I can find a job by september I'll look into this.

Was thinking a bit of cycling would be good for the fitness

Good luck with the job hunting and good luck with the bike - the only other piece of advice I'd offer is to go for a road bike if you think you'd fancy doing longer (30+ km) spins.
