    hi all

Have a laptop with serious problems. Have already taken it into the lovely guys on prospect hill (no fix; no fee) however, though their diagnosis was very bad, i'd like a second opinion before I lose all my data completely.

Anyone know of a good crowd in and around te city who could take a look at it?

    Thanks

    Jak

damaged hard disc. Worse, only data retrivable is music which i have backed up; Photos from travelling gone. :(

So, they offered to put in a new hard disc/ drive for around 150 yo-yo, but as netbooks (it's a netbook, actually, not a laptop) are practically that cheap I def. want a second opinion.

Have you tried any data recovery software?

You will be able to purchase a new HDD for about 30 - 40 euro on amazon.co.uk.
They are very easy to replace (you just need a small screwdriver), and if you have the original CDs with the operating system / drivers, you can set do it yourself.

No. I have actually dropped it into Laptec. going to see what they can do. Their prices are way better. :)

Have confidence they will sort it out for me.

Thanks I appreciate that but I will just give it in to the Laptec guys and hope that they can work some magic on it.

They just take out the HD and plug it into a desktop, anyone could do that.

Data can always be recovered, at worst you could send it to a lab in the UK that would charge you £600 to get the data off, they can get data of terminal HDs.

Reason I asked. As I previously posted in another thread, I had my Desktop computer repaired recently by www.completecomputercare.ie (recommended by a friend) found them good collected my computer and returned it to my door again fixed, its also no fix no fee so might be worth a look if you have any issues in future.

Hi Jackthelad. Just wondering how you got on with Lapteck? Need to drop my laptop somewhere soon.

    Cheers.

I thought they were very good. Yer man in there charged me 60 and basically did his best, recovered all my data, told me there was still a problem with the m key but i hadn't asked him to fix that and he said he'd throw in a new harddrive for 30 quid if the old one failed in the next while.

Better than the other chancers who tried to tell me my data was all gone and i had to get a new harddrive put in for 150 euro (the thing is barely worth more)
