VAT reduction

Newstalk reported this morning that their brief survey of the coffee chains indicated that only Starbuck were intent on passing on the reduction.
Insomnia and Bewleys both cited various cost increases with particular reference to coffee prices.

Coffee certainly has increased over the last 2 years, this year especially.
5th July 2011 prices are a 222c composite price per pound. Nearly double two years ago. During a time when price increases were a non runner for most coffee shops.

TBH I would have thought that not withstanding that commodity price increase, the raw cost of coffee was a modest enough element of the 3.30 I pay each morning for a cappuccino.

Do you think not passing on the reduction is fair enough? Or should the government remove the reduction if the chains and individuals aren't passing it on?
Has your local passed it on, or have you asked?

    3.30. Pricey

They should Defo pass it on. Not a vast amount but adds up. I know in my business ( landscaping ) if there was a vat reduction the client would take it off without hesitation.
