    Hi,

Looking for the easiest way from Northside Dublin (fairview/clontarf) to Ashbourne.

I'd imagine the N2 isn't the best option?

    Thanks

The most scenic route would be up the coast to Malahide, along the estuary and under the M1, then along the Rathbeal Road into Ashbourne, not the shortest route though.

The old N2 isn't too bad - it's long, straight and boring but more than cycle-able.

The other option would be to take the back roads - the R125 towards Swords, then the R122 which brings you out the back of the airport, down through Ballymun and the Griffith Avenue to Clontarf.

Variations on that route could include continuing to Swords and coming in through Santry or past Swords to Malahide and following the coast road or the Malahide Road in.

Why not the N2, it would be the easiest. It's quiet enough this days and pretty much a straight road, however because of this it could be fairly boring. There have been roadworks around Kilshane which have a temporary surface so it may be a little rough in places.

Roadworks on the N2 are a pain. Most of the work on the road has been done on the south-going side of the road but it is the most un-even repair I've ever been on, it's brutal!
The N2 is straight and kinda boring, but if the wind is northerly or southerly, you're in for a tough ride going one of the ways! The back roads may shelter you more from this
