Anyone here got one, particularly the 1.6HDI with EGS? I see they rate pretty well in the JD Power which surprised me for a Citroen.

A colleague at work just bought one up North but it's a manual. Talking to him he said he did his homework and was put off the EGS auto due to the poor reviews of it.

I've driven an EGS version and it's sh1t. Non of the benefits of a manual, and few benefits of an Auto.

We had an 08 Grand Picasso on a 3 year lease and never had any issues with it. It did only do 42,000km, so was only serviced once and had 1 damaged tyre replaced, so I can't say what the reliability is like in general.

I have a 1.6 Diesel EGS, but in the 5 seater model.

It is perfectly fine. Sure the gear changes are not as refined as a S class merc, but it is still very comfortable for its purpose, as an MPV.

    No reliability issues either.

Interestingly the EGS is cheaper to tax and has higher MPG figures than its equivalent manual engine?!?

    This.

From some point in 08 (I think, maybe 09) EGS is in Band B for tax, manual in C.

Bear in mind that an EGS is not an 'Automatic'. It's a 'piloted manual gearbox'. Essentially what that means is that it hasn't got a torque converter and sun & planet gears as you'd expect. It's a manual gearbox that de-clutches, changes gear and clutches without you having to press a clutch pedal and shift gear - it does it for you.

Yes, it takes a bit of getting used to but it's more economical than a manual box unlike a standard 'slushmatic' that just wastes fuel.

The Citroën C5 1.6 e-HDi is tax band A where as the manual version (identical engine) is band B. Older C4 Picassos in EGS are band B and the manual counterparts are Band C. All 2011 (and some 2010 manual) Picassos are now tax band B.

I got an 11 reg C4 Grand Picasso 1.6 HDi Exclusive the other day and it does require a bit of getting used to but it's a fine machine. A tip I'd offer is to feather the throttle as the gear changes (as you do in a manual) and you'll find it much quicker at the gearchange.
