    Hi everyone,
I am a new member to boards.ie but long time viewer. I have the triax st-hd537 with a few weeks now and cant seem to find a way to display all channels in full screen (16:9). For example with my sky box channels that are broadcast in 4:3 are stretched automatically to fill screen. Is there a way to do this with the triax?

Appreciate a reply as its starting to frustrate me. thanks. :)

Cool thanks jamescc. I suppose I will have to keep manually changing screen size for each channel and hope they bring out a firmware update to fix it.

I would say actually that the box is ok. You mentioned a sky box stretching 4:3 channels to fill the screen (16:9). My sky box adjusts the picture to 4:3 if the channel or original production is meant to be seen in 4:3. Is your Triax box doing this as well?

See ITV3 for an example of this. They show alot of older ITV programming which was originally shot in 4:3. My Sky box switches the TV to 4:3 to allow the programme to be seen in its proper aspect ratio. They also show more recent programming filmed in widescreen, so for these the box correctly switches the TV to widescreen.

Similar on Saorview. Stuff like "Judge Judy" on TV3 is displayed in 4:3 as the programme was produced that way, while news output is in 16:9. Actually if you watch the end of a 4:3 programme and keep watching as the adverts come on you'll notice the TV switching from 4:3 to 16:9. It's what should happen. My Sony TV when receiving Saorview, like the Sky box, switches to the proper aspect ratio for the programme.

An exception is 3e which seems to have everything in widescreen regardless of what aspect ratio the programme was shot in.

richieo85 i would wonder what type of tv that you have? i have a lg about 5 or 6 year old so it does not have the function to switch it does have a ratio button but it never works as for a firmware update i would not hold my breath for it any time to soon

No Mayo Exile, when originally broadcast in 4:3 sky box stretches to widescreen (16:9). However the Triax box doesn't do this, you have to go to settings>screen size and alter manually.
My sky box switches the tv from wide to smart when its 4:3 whereas triax box does not.

jamescc, I have a Sony Bravia KDL 40EX only a year old, and also have an older Sony Bravia which does the same thing.
I have got used to switching the screen size quickly so not really bothering me much anymore but be nice not to have to.

Also anyone know if anyway to play movies besides the ones recorded with it?

Have you tried setting the video output resolution to either 1080i or 1080p? I have a Sony W4000 TV and when my Sky box is showing a HD channel only wide, smart or zoom modes can be selected. Must connect the box to the TV with a HDMI lead for 1080i 0r 1080p output.

Don't forget though that channels such as Channel 4 HD will still display 4:3 material with black bars down either side even if your TV is in widescreen (16:9) mode. It's called 16:9 pillarboxing.

See Triax manual page 18, Basic adjustment - AV settings.
