Owen Hargreaves Training Videos

Not sure if anyone has seen these days, but Owen Hargreaves has been posting videos on youtube the last couple of weeks, doing different forms of training, presumably to get some clubs attention.
http://www.youtube.com/user/owenhargreavescb is the link to them, in fairness to the lad he does look in great shape, but like the article in the next link says, Utd thought he was in great shape before he played all 4 of those minutes in the game in Novemeber. http://www.football365.com/news/21554/7022444/Can-Hargreaves-Mind-Appear-On-YouTube-

Anyone think any Premier league clubs will take a chance on him? He'd fit in great for us at Blackburn, if he was fit he'd be guaranteed games, if not then he'd have practically the rest of our midfield to keep him company in the physios room!

Someone in Europe will take a chance on him, but only on a pay-as-you-play. I can't see a Premier League team going for him though. Cracking player when fit mind, shame injury has ruined him.

Those videos are cringeworthy, but if the brochure worked for Michael Owen then these things are worth trying!

He looks like hes never been injured:eek:,as a utd fan its a shame we couldnt have given him until january to prove himself, hopefully celtic snap him up,he would be good on a pay as you play deal and add a little class to celtics midfield.

Honestly i'd love to see him back playing. I was a big fan of his in Germany and would love to see him get a few years injury free.

Pretty sure someone will take a chance on him. What's tolose on one of them pay as you play deals, if he has fully recovered he'll be worth a few quid.

Makes me sad to see these tbh. I feel so bad for the guy.

However, anyone saying United made a mistake or should take him back based on these short clips is insane. He barely kicked a ball in three seasons. If he makes it back to playing regularly at any decent level at all in professional football I'd be stunned and delighted for him in equal measure. The chronic type of problems he has don't go away and all the time his muscles are becoming more and more prone to tears and sprains. Using a 2 minute vidoe of him in the gym as evidence that he's worth being signed by a PL club is as retarded as basing an assessment of a players quality on a you tube clip of equal length.

Wish him well. He really deserves a break (no, not that kind).

i would give him a pay as u play contract at arsenal, for cover for song!

Anybody who properly watched him at Bayern will tell ya how good of a player he was for them. The Ingurland hate he was reviving pre-World Cup 06 was comical. Best player for England during that IMO.

Got to say, can't help but feel a tad sad for him despite the club he played for last time.

Have to say I would love to see him at Arsenal, give him a pay as you play deal for the first year see how he gets on, as for cove for Song if he stayed fit he,d definetly be first choice.

Suprised he hasnt really been linked with any clubs so far.

i wouldve thought wed learned our lesson regarding bringing unwanted united players to the club after the farce that was silvestre.

its common sense - alex ferguson doesnt let good players go easily. especially to direct rivals.

if there was any hope of hargreaves fully recovering and getting back to his best then ferguson wouldnt let him leave. he is most likely finished as a top level player at this stage

    Poor hargreaves....

I seen the videos and hes trying really hard but the minute he gets on a pitch its injury city again, guaranteed.

Giuseppe Rossi was the only one I can think of recently where he has made a mistake, as for hargreaves I to hope he gets a good deal as he can be a top player when free from injury

    Quotes from his page..

it is shame to witness one of the best midfilders england ever had being in this kind of sitution, u deserve much better mate & i hope things work out for u soon....

    Come to liverpool!!!!

Cant believe United didnt keep him on a pay as you play deal. Genuinely one of the best midfielders Ive seen
    cueballzero
I'm surprised Arsenal aren't in for him, any team in need of a proven top class midfielder should be knocking on your door Owen. Pay as you play deal for the first 3 months then offer you a 2 yr deal if you succeed. What's wrong with football now?
    RodtheFierce
Derry City in Northern Ireland need a new enforcer. They're riding high in the league after just being promoted. Famous players like Paddy McCourt and Niall McGinn used to play for us
    Liamjonathangrant
at least if you dont get signed this year you could use the vids to release a work out video.

Ignore all the comments below the videos. Comments on YouTube are the height of retardness.

Anyway, it's dad alright to see a player of his quality reduced to this. At least it isn't quite as bad as Michael Owen's pamphlet that he sent around 2 years ago. That was embarrasing beyond belief, but it got him a few years with United. Hopefully Hargreaves will be just as lucky

Type of player I'd expect QPR to be looking at. Pay him for the year, extend contract if he plays enough and they stay up. Puts him at a club where he can really set out to prove himself. Don't think he's worth it for the more established PL clubs tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,434 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Why is it "cringe-worthy" or "sad to see him reduced to this"?

He has barely kicked a ball in anger in three years, so it is up to him to prove himself. And there is nothing embarrassing about those videos. He looks in great shape, and it is a credit to him that A) he has worked as hard as has worked to keep such a fitness level B) he has the desire for a contract to show what he's capable of and willingness to put the onus on himself.

LOL. I need to go to bed. :pac:

In my own defence I was simply saying it was sad how things went so wrong at United and certainly not in a patronising or critical way. If anything the clips will at least keep his profile up , he was in danger of being a forgotten man.

i take it if one of the players from the team you support gets badly injured you say **** it buy another?the reason a lot of united fans loved him is because he had a sensational season when we won the champions league,he ran the show in the final.

As a fan of football in general first and foremost, it's sad to see a player of his ability be so utterly injury plagued... likewise with Agger and Aurelio for us.. RVP for Arsenal. They're quality footballers no doubt about that. Truth be told, he(Hargreaves) was someone who I had wanted Liverpool to sign once upon a time ago I rated him that highly. So yeah, once again it's a bit sad to see how his career panned out despite the club he used to play for.

This was quick, not sure if it's that funny, but it's also a good compilation of videos.

I think fair play to him for working so hard.

No real sympathy for him, yes he's unfortunate with injuries but he has millions in the bank to cushion the blow.

I'm sure some club will offer him a deal.

This has Everton signing written all over it.

if anything this impresses me more that he's willing to go through all this work i order to try and gain some attention from some clubs. Which has led to...

Well it looks like someone definitely has taken interest in his videos!

    Sven eyes Owen swoop

I think a championship side is his best bet, don't think the better PL clubs will be interested, and well a lot of the smaller ones can't take the risk of taking him because they don't have huge squads and to allow for him if he does get re-injured.

Oh and as regards the whole video thing, I don't see anything wrong with it, imagine all the videos clubs and scouts receive every week, he's just doing it the modern way and using the world's biggest video website!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

It'd be a no-brainer for the majority of Premier League clubs if he was willing to accept a pay-as-you-play deal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 309 ✭✭jrochie

but how many clubs can afford to take the risk on him and use up a squad place on him.

Its a sad situation for the guy, i remember watching the 06 world cup, i spent the majority of it in hospital, so i watched nearly all the games. England had their usually take before the tournament and as usual were pure s***e for the most of it. But he went from a player who was booed on every touch to being their player of the tournament and fan favorite!

Horrible to see him go out like this if he can't come back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,449 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

I think Leicester want to sign him, Sven was rambling on Twitter about it i think... I would hate to see him drop below premier league.

Off topic a bit but can anyone explain to me (without making a bondage joke) what the harness-like device is that he has on between his wrists to his thighs? Is it a physio device or is it training-related and what are the outcomes of using it? Genuinely curious!

I was wondering the same thing actually haven't been able to find out yet though

I'd imagine he will not be the same player he was 3 years ago even if he does stay injury free. I think a lot of people are making the assumption that he will magically return to playing to the same level he was playing at before his injuries.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,154 ✭✭✭✭Neil3030

They are resistance bands, but whether they are to strengthen muscles around his injury prone joints/areas or to just strengthen the muscles typically needed to play football, I wouldn't know.
